Exclamation I feel like a Gorilla...

Ok, so my Dr told me to start taking Saw Palmetto for the thinning that is happening on my head... Is it supposed to make other hair grow rapidly as well? I have to shave my legs more often then I did before and now I am noticing that I am getting new hair on my arms! What is going on????

Saw pallmetto is for balancing out your hormones so it is suppossed to help decrease the body/facial hair and thicken head hair. I use to take this for my excess body hair but never seen any results with it so stopped, but apparently some people find it works. I'm sure I read somewhere on the internet that some women have experienced an increase in body/facial hair so if this is happening to you maybe you should see if there is anything else that would help, fortunately I don't suffer from thinning head hair so not sure what would be best to do but i'm sure other cyster's will give you advice. Good luck!

Are you noticing an increase in the unwanted hair or just that it grows faster? I take saw palmetto, zinc, and spironolactone for all the hair problems. Saw palmetto is supposed to block the effects of testosterone and keep your hair from falling out/not growing back. It is often taken by men for prostate problems. I haven't experienced any increase in the hair I don't want but I have only been taking it approximately one month. The endo told me to take zinc because it is good for your hair and will help it grow. I've been taking it for maybe two weeks so can't tell if it is helping yet. It does have the side effect of making me nauseus but that is really improving.

Maybe the hair growing faster is because of the warm weather? My hair (head, leg, etc.) always grows faster in the summer, and is true for many people I know.

I am hoping that the warm weather has a lot to do with it. Now that I think of it, it did really start growing faster the warmer the weather got. whew! At least I won't have to deal with this in the winter!!!
You guys rock! Thank you for all of your advice

Hey Kalmert - I hope that is the problem (warm weather). I keep hoping some of my head hair will decide it wants to grow back in the summer. It is just wishful thinking so far. No sign of regrowth whatsoever. Dang it.

The hair on my head really isn't thinning too bad, Not noticeable unless I part it a certain way or point it out, but I still hate it. Hopefully we'll find a cure for all of our symptoms one day!
Take care!!
