Default I feel a little silly, but....

Okay, here's my very quick history...

I got pregnant once on Met alone but miscarried right away. I got pregnant with my DD on my 2nd round of clomid (50 mg). We have been TTC #2 for over a year now. I've done 2 rounds of 50 mg so far and 3 at 100 mg. I have been treated by an OB that specializes in PCOS but doesn't do a ton of "fertility treatment". I have been referred to an RE Dec 1st.

Here's my question....Obviously we don't know if there's something new going on with me, but I just want to try to get a handle on what may happen at the consultation and what I could reasonably anticipate being our first plan of attack? For anyone that's been further down the TTC road than I have, I'd love any insight that you could share.

I'm pretty optimistic that I'll be able to conceive/carry again, but a little concerned that it was relatively easy last time and now I'm not even seeming to O on Clomid, even at the higher dose.

Thanks ladies!

Well I am super early in my treatment too. So far I have just been sent for a ton of blood work.

This week my DH is turning in his semen for testing. Once AF arrives for me I will call to schedule the HSG and then hopefully get some meds to help get me pregnant and keep me pregnant!

But I'm thinking each Dr's office does it differently because you already have clomid and I'm not there yet.

Mostly I just wanted to say your baby is adorable!

I don't have a ton of experience, but I have just started seeing an RE. Here's what happened during my first appts: On the first appt I met with the nurse, it took about an hour, she went over all our history including medical history, family medical history, and everything related to my periods and infertility. On the second appt we met with the RE, the appt was about 2 hours total, he did a standard physical exam and an ultrasound. Then spent about an hour talking to us and explaining everything, he was very thorough and made sure we understood. And talked about all the different causes of infertility and about the different tests we could do to try to determine the cause or causes of our problem and then ordered bloodwork and tests.
I'm not sure if all RE appts go the same way, I haven't really heard too many other women's experiences, but that's how mine went.
As far as the first plan of attack, I think that varies.

GL, I hope your appt goes good and that you get some answers soon!

laura,

when i first started seeing my RE a couple of years ago i was in the same situation - 5 failed clomid cycles up to 200mg with no O. at my first appointment i met the staff, we talked about our "plan", did bloodwork, & u/s. i started provera to induce AF & then did day 3 bloodwork & scheduled an HSG. in the meantime, DH also did a SA. sounds like a lot, but it all happened within the month of march 2007.

ultimately he decided to do one last cycle of clomid & monitored me via u/s so that he could see what (if anything) was going on. was i growing follicles, but not releasing them? was nothing happening at all? at 200 mg i never had a follie grow bigger than 12 so we started inject.

HTH! GL!

Okay thanks gals, that does help a lot. DH did have a SA done prior to getting pregnant w/ Ayla. I've just never been monitored at all during my cycle. It sounds silly, I hear women talking all the time about what treatments they are doing, but DH asked what he thought they'd move me to, I really didn't know. I told him, probably a lot of monitoring, testing, then possibly injectables, but don't know.

Okay, and I am def going to have to update my pictures! I love all of the compliments, but to hear her called a baby sounds funny (yes, she was during those pics....last year!)

Wonder what I'd do without SC!

Keep any ideas/advice coming, I love to hear everyone's experiences. I'm better, but still a bit doctor phobic, so knowing what is/may be coming helps a ton.

My first appt was just a consultation. Then I had to go in for a internal sonogram to check to see if everyting "looked normal." You will def go through a lot of tests. I had a sonohystogram, an HSG, and blood work. Then he developed a plan. From what I have been through your RE may continue with the clomid and monitor you. Have you ever had a trigger HCG shot with your clomid to force you to ovulate? That might be all you need! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

I've never had anything beyond Met and Clomid. Thanks. I'm really holding onto "it worked once, how hard can it be for my body".

Funny, I went through a pregnancy and a ROUGH birth and am perfectly willing to do it all again, but I hear blood test and cringe! What a dork!

Laurlie58 - I love your daughter's name. My DH and I have also thought that when we have a daughter we would like to name her Ayla Lynn. (I have never mentioned this name to anyone other than my hubby for fear of jynxing myself) I am a big fan of Jean Auel's and have the entire "Clan of the Cave Bear" series and have read it multiple times over. Did you get the name from there?
I also suffer from secondary infertility. (I m/c at 4 weeks from a natural cycle then dx'd PCOS after not seeing AF for 6 months) I would definitely try to see if you need a trigger shot while on the clomid, but you may also have to change to another med as the clomid may have stopped working for you. It is not unusual to have to do. good luck.

Rynngo - Thanks! I have never heard of that series - funny! My great-grandmother's name was Elin (pronounced A-Lynn). I loved it and we planned to use it as a middle name. I wanted to adjust the spelling so it wasn't pronounced wrong all the time but didn't want to get to "cutsie" with the spelling. I happened across the name Ayla and our first choice went right out the window. She is named Ayla in honor of my great-grandma and Rose was DH's grandmother's name. We chose not to find out the gender when I was pregnant and I was very happy we didn't have to continue to struggle with boy names. We had it down to 2 and decided to wait and see if we had to make a decision.
