Default I finally made an appt.

I finally got the courage up to call and make an appt to talk to a depression counselor. I am on anti depressants, but my doctor told me if I don't get counseling I will just slide back into it. I have, if I could I would stay in bed all day long. I have become a hermit, if I do go out I find I spend too much money. We have money problems now because I put too much on credit cards and took too much out of the savings account. I hope this counseling helps!

I see the counselor today at 3. Wish me luck.

When I was dealing with PPD, having a therapist to talk to made a huge difference. It's time you are setting aside just for you and talking to someone that is listening to only YOU. Good luck!

(((Hugs))) I've had many days when I didn't want to get out of bed either. I'm sure the counseling will help some. Good luck!

Good for you for making the appt! I have a therapist who is great and it really helps to have a place to dump everything. Remember that if you don't like this one you can always try another. They all have different approaches and personalities, some are easier to connect with than others.

This is going to be so good for you! I am on Paxil for panic attacks due to two individual rapes and some harrassment I received. Counseling was the best thing I ever did for myself! I am proud of you for putting yourself first!!! You are already a wonderful person this is just going to make you more confident about yourself!!! If you need anything please do not hesitate to ask! I will be sure to keep you in my prayers!!

Best of luck with therapy. You should try COgnitive Therapy, it is a real healing therapy and will really help you. It sounds almost like you suffer from Bipolar Depression. I have it and I sleep all the time or else want to spend hoards of money, it is a symptom of Bipolar. I hope you find that one thing that helps you and heals you. HUGS& KISSES

Default Thank you all

You all are so sweet, thank you. I am glad I found this site and have your support. It really means a lot to me. I think I may cry, tears of happiness of course.

It has been 6 months since my primary care doc gave me their number and suggested I need to get tharapy or I will just slide back into depression if I rely just on meds to make me feel better. I felt better after I made the call, like I was finally doing something positive. I got out of bed, did some chores and got dressed. That was the most I have done in days!

I met with the therapist today and he really impressed me. I think I will benefit from this greatly. He pointed out that when I am uncomfortable I retreat into my mind and I am not "there". He even told me when I did it. I guess he could see it in my eyes. He is so right. I tend not to look beyond myself, am I afraid others may want in? After the consultation I had to just drive around a bit and think before going home.

My first real session will be Wednesday next week. The only bad thing is that he doesn't take insurance, he only charges $70 per hour session, so that's not too bad. I am wondering if I get a receipt can I get reimbursed by my insurance? That will be on my to do list tomorrow, call the insurance people.

Sorry this is so long, but I had to get it out. Thanks

I am so happy that things went well for you. Best of luck on the ins thing.
I used to do the "retreating" thing a lot, and it was a tough one to improve on for me. It takes a lot of effort somedays My Therapist actually has me email my thoughts to her after the session, especially if I retreat and shut down, so I can better communicate with her and let her know what is going on inside my head at those times!! Best of Luck! I hope it continues to go well!

I've done the same thing too. I'm not seeing a counselor currently, but in the past sometimes I would need "processing time" to "file" everything in my mind after talking to a doc.

I hope everything goes well in your treatment! HUG

Congrats on making your appointment and going in! I did the same exact thing - took meds from my PCP and then waited 6 months or so before I called the shrink. I was doing much better on the meds - no more insane crying jags - but I also wasn't getting past a certain point. The therapist has totally helped. I'm down to 2x a month now instead of weekly.

Mine isn't covered by insurance at all - you should be able to use it in your Flexible Spending Account if you can't get the insurance folks to pony up.

Good luck, and keep us informed!! Ellen

Called my insurance company today and they will reimburse me! She told me which form I needed to fill out and include proff of payment and just send it in. I hope it really is as easy as she made it sound! I so can't wait for Wednesday for my first session!
