Thumbs down I give up on Glucophage (long)

I'm giving up....I can't stand feeling sick evey day and not being able to eat ANYTHING! My RE says that my body is just not tolerating the glucophage. I know that a lot of you have stuck with it for several months before you felt better, but I just can't do it. I have so much stress in my life right now and this is just making it worse.

Here's my situation...and my questions....I was diagnosed with PCOS several yrs ago, but I don't have a lot of the typical symptoms. I'm NOT IR, nor am I overweight. I DO get fairly regular AF, but it's very, very light and normally doesn't last more than day, day 1/2. I don't O regularaly. I've gotten pg twice with injectibles and IUI but lost all the babies, so now I'm starting over. My RE wanted to try glucophage, just to see what would happen and maybe reduce the risk of another m/c, although none of my losses are attributed to hormone levels, etc. Just random lightening strikes. Question: does a low-carb diet and exercise have the same affect as glucophage if you are not IR? I exercise daily and don't have a problem eating right...I just want to be able to eat a piece of candy every now and then without getting sick!! Question: how much does gluc help towards preventing a m/c??

Sorry for being so long....I'm just frustrated and want to do the right thing.

Pamela

Hi Pamela,

My RE told me that the glucophage has been proven to cut down on the risk of miscarriages especially if taken through the first 12 weeks. He didn't go into details until we are ready to ttc again or get ready for ivf but he does insist that I will be taking it in the early part of pregnancy due to an earlier miscarriage and family history. Have you tried the XR yet? A lot of the ladies that can't tolerate the met or regular glucophage have switched to the XR and seem to have no side affects at all or very minimal.

Deb
