Exclamation I go through the razors

I am brand new to this, and stunned to read about all of the women that are just like me! I have to shave my face daily, and then I apply a hair minimizing lotion. This does not succeed in minimizing anything, but it moisturizes well! I cannot let mine grow out, as I could not endure the embarassment at work. I already have to deal with people staring at the redness. I use concealer on my neck to try and hide that issue. Some days it works quite well, but there I times I just want to hide in a cave so no one can see me. Needless to say...I don't hold my head up high. I wish I could go back to when the hair was longer and their was less of it. In high school I kept pointing it out to my mother after being teased, and she did not offer any solution...so I shaved it. Biggest mistake of my life! I think it could have been under control at least at this point. I just recently was diagnosed with PCOS, and knowing what I do now, I realize it has been affecting me since puberty. No one noticed all the symptoms...I mean at that time, it was not really something that was being diagnosed a lot. I am so happy I have found people to talk to now!!!

after reading all the stuff people wrote I am terrified!! I have pcos but my hair hasnt begun to fall out and i get a few hairs on my face but not like the girls here do..Does this happen to all women with pcos? or if I havent gotten yet am i okay? I am already freaked out over my weight etc. I couldn't handle this..
And why does it seem there is no research on this?
no cures?
Its very upsetting to me

welcome teresa! you are definitely not alone!

and confuzed, don't worry too much. There are so many syptoms to PCOS that most people only have a few or some of them. I have excess hair, but I'm not losing my other hair. Yet, anyway - I can't predict the future so who knows what will happen.

There are a lot of good links on this site that can pretty much answer all your questions. Just spend some time checking it all out.

good luck to you both (and to the rest of us too I suppose!)

Confuzed--don't worry so much about it! I also have only a few, though major, sx's--hirsutism, no periods/ovulations, and had to take clomid to achieve both pregnancies. However, I am not overweight, and I have NO problem with hair loss; I have a TON of hair. As you can see, everyone has different problems and you may not ever have some of them!

Don't worry Confuzed, I think there are a lot of women with PCOS that don't have the excess hair. If you only have a few, and you don't shave or anything, it will stay under control. I have read that you just want to try and stay on a good diet to keep the symptoms down. I am lucky not to have a big problem with the weight part...but I know I could watch my diet and exercise more. Reading all of these posts, you can see how different every woman is. My main problem seems to be too much androgen!!! I am going to make an appointment with an Endocrinologist though, and see what my options are. Keep your head up...I know it is scary, but we are all here for each other. The research is getting better the more common this becomes!

Hi, I am also new to this. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS.

I also have hair on my face. I highly recommend that you stop shaving your face as this will only make the hair more coarse. I actually use Emjoy Gently. It's a small machine that runs on battries. I have found that after using it the hair grows back thinner. I use it about once a fortnight. Also 'Hair No More' is supposed to be really good providing you use the lotion 3 times a day after applying the cream.
