After reading Lisa's story I feel guilty posting this, but my appointment was the complete opposite.
We got taken within five minutes of arriving (actually early) and the Dr (plus the obligatory student) were waiting for us.
The consultant looked through all my notes, read my blood results and asked me about my symptoms. He explained pcos (which I knew, but I think was of benefit to dh & the student) and the reasons why we had trouble conceiving. The student asked questions too and the doc explained to him that pcos was something I was born with, I would always have, but there were ways round it. He told me that it was now understood that pcos was an insulin related problem and that a possible way to treat it was metformin. However in my case he felt that my excess weight wasn't too bad and my bmi was borderline (2st overweight bmi 26) and that if I could maintain that he didn't feel I needed met right now. He talked us through Clomiphene and the side effects and said we could either wait and see if the fairly regular pattern which has emerged since my miscarriage continues (a 33 and 36 day cycle) or go for Clomid right away. Which is what we are doing.
I have to wait for AF and if she doesn't arrive in the next 6 weeks I go back for provera. I came away with 6 months of Clomid and an appointment for June 14th. I'll be tracked through urine samples which he felt would be less invasive than blood (given my rotten veins). I got the usual inspection of my bits and DH has to hand in two samples too. Then a nurse came and went through all the Clomid info with us and made sure we knew what we were doing.
We got sent off with lots of "Good Lucks" from everyone. It was so positive.
If I get a +hpt I have to contact the Pregnancy Support Dept and they will arrange early scans to help me cope during the first weeks. If I don't get pg in the next 6 months he will arrange for a lap and dye and possible ovarian drilling.
He talked about my fears of miscarriage and said he was quite positive we could have a succesful outcome.
The hospital is new and the maternity/reproductive unit has just moved there, this may have been a factor, but everyone was genuinely helpful and kind.
Lisa - if you read this I would love for you to have had the same experience as me. I really feel for you and your dh as I know how nervous I was when I was going in and if I had the same reaction as you i would have been a wreck.
