Default I got my Met!!

I was so happy not to see a Dr. who gave me the runaround. I was really preapared for a fight when I went into the Dr.'s office, but once he and I started talking, he was completely in agreement with me! I was so surprised. I walked away with the prescription I wanted. He prescribed 500mg twice a day until I go off the pill at the end of May. Then I will have to re-evaluate the dosage. I'm pretty happy about it though. I'm just wondering now if I should take it, or wait until later on today. Its 1:15 p.m. here now and because my husband was in such a hurry to get back to work, we ran by McDonalds for lunch, something I rarely if ever eat. I'm just wondering if I take the met now am I tempting fate with the world of stomach upset. Anyway, I'm really happy about it and just had to share...

If I were you, I'd hold off on the metformin. Anytime you eat anything greasy (McDonald's) it will make your tummy side effects worse. So to start out, I'd take your first dose with a low fat, non-greasy breakfast in the morning.

Be sure to always take it with food, or your blood sugar can drop too low and you're tummy will gripe at you.

Congrats on this new journey...be patient..it can take a while to get the dosage right and the symptoms resolving. but you are on the right track!

Hi Pippa62,

Congratulations on the RX. I am hoping to get one on Friday. I have my 1st visit with the RE.

I have a question for you. Can I start the Metformin on any given day or does it have to be started on a certain CD?

Thanks so much and good luck with it! I hope the SE aren't too bad.

You can start it any day of your cycle. This drug will lower your blood sugar, so you have to take it with food, and I find it lessens the side effects when your stomach is not empty.

Thumbs up

I think its important to also start out slowly on the met. I cut the 500 mg pill in half and for the first couple days just took 250 mg in the morning and the other half at dinner. I found that by adding additional mg very slowly, I didn't have any side effects. I started taking 1000 mg on met 6 weeks ago, and I just saw my doctor today and she upped it to 2000 mg. Hopefully that will help me in my weight loss.
Have a great day,
Jenny
