Unhappy I Got My Results Back - *CONFUSED*

I am beyond confused right now so i'm hoping some of you can help me.

Monday, I went to the doctor to discuss possibly having PCOS. She did a "Fasting Glucose Test" and told me that someone would call me back in a week with the results. Well today, I relized that the number that they had to reach me was no longer in service so I called in to let them know and ask about my results.

The problem is my doctor is out of the office until next Wednesday and the nurses have no idea what to do. They want to wait until my doctor gets back since she knows what we discussed and go from there. My doctor explained to me that if i'm Insulin Resistant and I have PCOS, she would prescribe me Metformin.

The nurses ended up giving me my numbers but I have no idea what they mean. Insulin Resistant or not? Help, please? My results are below :

Serum Glucose - 101 (Normal: 65-99)
Fasting Insulin - 43.9 (Normal: 029.1)
Testosterone - She gave me the numbers but I didn't write them down. However, she said they were in normal range.

Which one determines if you're actually Insulin Resistant? Thanks for everything!

Hi, this might help. It's a link to normal lab values and what they mean. Hope this helps and good luck!

From what it looks like to me you are insulin resistant (fasting insulin numbers and my dr considers them any number above 14) and your borderline pre diabetic since your fasting glucose is just out of the range. Prediabetes is a warning of where you are heading, to prevent it as best you can I would ask your dr about glucophage and if you need to lose weight to go on a diet and exercise regimen to fend off diabetes. My dr classifies fasting glucose above 95 to be a prediabetic and above 120 to be a diabetic. I would also have them run an hba1c blood test on you to see a more clear overall of your sugar the last three months instead of just this one morning.

With my weight loss, glucophage, exercise and dandelion root (herb for appetite stimulant and insulin resistance) I went from a pre diabetic to my sugars now staying around 70 and a 180 pound weight loss. I did an unconventional diet but I think the key is to finding one you can stick with (foods and lifestyle habits that fit with what you like) and make it a lifestyle change for yourself.

Thanks ladies!

April S - Hopefully she'll start me on some Metformin/Glucophage to help me. I joined the YWCA 2 weeks ago and i've begun walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes every other day so i'm trying my best to get this weight off.

Blu-Cypress - Thanks for the chart! That definately helped me see things clearer.

Congratulations on the exercise regimen It is one of the best ways to help keep your insulin under control.

Glucophage made a huge difference for me, I hope it helps you just as much.
