Default I got Spiro today!!!yah!!! but...

Heya friends...

I went to my endo today and he was more than happy for me to take spiro. I got a prescription for 200mgs a day!!!! isn't this kinda high? I read most people on this board are on 100mgs a day so I asked him if I could maybe try 100mgs a day for the first month and see what happens.. anyway he said that fine if I only wanted to clear acne but if I wanted to get rid of the facial hair I'll have to be on a dose higher than 100mgs..

Anyway ever took 200mgs of spiro a day?? ... kinda worried about the high does..I thought he was going to start me on 50mg!!! Wow! I'm still in shock!

Default 200mgs of Spiro.

I take 200mgs of Spironolactone daily. I started out with 100mgs for about three months. I asked for a higher dose, and my endocrinologist agreed. I suffer from excessive hair loss. The Spiro has halped quite a bit. I don't have the hair loss anymore, but I don't have a lot of hair growth (on head) either
I haven't had any negative side effects with Sprio. I have taken it for about a year and a half now. I know that it can cause problems for a male fetus, so it shouldn't be taken if you are trying to conceive.
The sprio has helped with acne, hair loss and it has helped to lower my Testosterone levels. It went from 119 to 22. I also take Metformin 2000mgs daily. The combination works for me. Good luck.

Allison,

I am feeling much better now that I know there are real people out there that are on a higher dose than usual. I also suffer from (what I would call moderate) hair loss.. I am really hoping spiro will help with that as well as all the other PCOs symptoms... I've been on it for a day now and haven't really noticed any side-effects. Hopefully everything will turn out great like you!!! I am on 1000mgs of metformin and also Diane35 but I'm going to try and get off Diane soon. Are you taking any BCPs because I heard Spiro can mess with menstrual cycles...

Thanks..
Sophie

Default spiro and A5666

I had been taking/rubbing on npc for a few months before starting 100 mg spiro, and the spiro has shorted my cycle by one week, even with the npc. It's ok though--at least it's 21 days and not 12, and AF lasts 6 days instead of 12. Much lighter. And even though it's short, it's predictable. So it can be done without the pill, but a doctor has t=o ma8ke (okay, kitten on the keyboard!) sure you're on some kind of reliable birth control for the baby male fetuses. So they usually just add the pill too--protect fetuses and regulate cycles in one. But I have a copper IUD.
