Default I had laparoscopy/hysteroscopy 4 days ago

Today I had my post-op appointment to see how surgery from last Thursday went. I went into surgery due to PCOS and pretty much figuring Endo. Well, surgery confirmed Endo. The doc expected me to be in surgery for about an hour, but it lasted 2 hours. About an hour and a half after surgery I was home and feeling sick to my stomach. I didn't handle the anethesia well and since this was my first surgery, I really didn't know what to expect. As for the surgery, my doc found Endo on my right ovary (in addition to having cysts), Endo on the outside lining of my uterus, and Endo that had binded my uterus to my intestines. My doctor put me as Stage II Endo. During the hysteroscopy, he fixed my septate uterus. Even though I don't have any immediate plans of getting pregnant, I took advantage of my insurance company covering the facility/doctor/anethesia costs which cut the price of the procedure almost in half for me to pay then.

Today I was show photos from surgery and at my next appointment I will have scanned versions of the photos to share. I highly recommend for anyone going into surgery to ask your doctor ahead of time if they do any photography or videos during surgery so they can show you what took place inside. My doctor took photos of all organs before and after to show that certain organs had no Endo and then for those that did, I could see the before and after.

I'm still dealing with discomfort, but I was told that is normal with the amount of Endo removed and with the fixing of the septate. I especially feel very exhausted after a lot of movement (ie: making the trip to the doctor's today; trying to walk to the corner and back just to get moving).

Please feel free to ask me any questions for anyone that is getting ready for this surgery. I have no problem helping by sharing my experience.

I'm glad you are safely out of surgery. Wow, I can't believe your uterus was binded to your intestines!

Did you talk to your doctor about the next step, i.e. medications?

Right now I'm on meds to basically fake a period this month so that I have max healing time. As for meds after that, I don't plan on any at the moment as again I'm not looking to get preggo anytime soon. This was all really done to alleviate pain. I go back at the end of the month for an ultrasound to check in on how everything is healing. I'll keep you posted.

froubaby, that's interesting that you don't think you'll take anything - is this your doctor's advice? From what I understood the endo can and usually will grow back eventually after a lap, esp if no medications are used to keep it at bay.

Like you, I'm also not ttc so I'm curious to know what your doctor's thoughts are behind not taking anything...

No, that isn't what my doc said. That is just what I figured. I thought meds were only then taken if you were TTC. I'll ask again at my next appt at the end of the month when we do an ultrasound to see how things are healing. He may say that I do have to take meds just to keep the Endo away. I'll definitely ask. Thanks for asking about that!

No problem! A lot of cysters who are ttc will try immediately after a lap before the endo comes back. Others opt for treatment which will hopefully give them a longer window of opportunity to conceive.

Keep us updated on your appt. I hope you get to feeling like yourself again soon.

Thank you so so so much for sharing froubaby. Hope you're feeling better today! I'm waiting to get scheduled in for a lap/hyst and septum resection too (unless it turns out to be bicornuate), so I enjoyed reading your post. And naturally I'm now full of questions Hope you don't mind!

1. Did you know about your septate uterus before the surgery? If so, how?
2. What symptoms were you getting that suggested endo?
3. Did he put a balloon/IUD in place to help healing?

Thanks xxx

Not a problem at all! Yes, each day I feel a little better, but I still have that lingering exhausted feeling still throughout the day.

1. Almost 2 months ago my doctor did a SIS (saline infusion) procedure on me as he thought he saw what looked to be growths in my uterus from an ultrasound image. Since that produces a 3D image of your utuerus, it was clear as day that I had a septate uterus.

2. Well, I've always had irregular periods and such that come with PCOS, but it wasn't until I had my 2nd cyst erupt this past September that things REALLY started hurting. Prior to Sept every now and then it would hurt during sex and I thought this to be normal. After the 2nd cyst erupted in Sept, there was pain all the time. Also, for the first few weeks it hurt like hell to go #2. So basically from all the symptoms my doctor suggested we do the lap surgery and then since the SIS image did not clearly show/deny any growths he suggested the hys surgery and then correct the septate as well.

3. They did put a catheter of some sort in me from fixing the septate. I had my surgery last Thursday morning and then they removed that at my post-op appointment Monday afternoon. I really couldn't tell it was there, but once they removed it on Monday I felt discomfort for the rest of the day so it was then that I definitely new something was there. lol

Please feel free to ask any other questions. It sounds like we may have a similar case. I don't mind sharing my history. In fact, if you search for threads started by me you'll find my newbie thread introducing what has happened for the past 2 years since the first cyst erupted.

When is your surgery scheduled for?

Good luck!
