Unhappy I hate hair. (long)

Hi everyone,

This is only my second post here (posted an introduction in the Newbie section), but was just thinking about my own problems with excessive facial/body hair and wanted to post here.

My hair on my face/body grows SUPER fast, it seems, at least the embarassing hairs anyway. I have really dark hairs that come in on my chin, all over under my chin, on my upper lip, and below my temples along my ears. I have tried waxing, bleaching, removing it with chemicals...nothing works because my skin is so sensitive. The two times I tried Nair and bleach I ended up with chemical burns on my chin! So, for the past 2 or 3 years I have resorted to shaving my face. Every single morning. I cannot go one day without removing my hair because when I wake up in the morning there is new stubble. It is so depressing and embarassing. And even when I do shave my hair off my face, I can sometimes see the "shadow" of it, even under my makeup. I am always constantly worrying that people are looking at me, knowing that I have hair on my face like a man.

I also have excessive hair growth on my breasts and abdomen/stomach area. And even though no one sees these areas, I shave them as well because it bothers me so much. And I regret ever starting to shave my body because I get AWFUL ingrown hairs, especially on my chest.

My mom used to yell at me for taking a razor to my face (she doesn't know about the rest of my body), but there's not much else I can do. Like I look forward to that extra 5-10 minutes every morning ridding my body of all this hair? It sucks. It really does.

Angry Hairy days

Hello
Just thought i'd tell you about my situation too. I have hair all over and have spent about £1,000 on electrolysis only for it to all grow back again anyway. All that pain for nothing!
Also spent about £2,000 on Aculight laser hair removal on my arms, which seems to have improved but not worth the money.
One time my dad caught me bleaching my upper lip when i was about 14 and went mad :-( He doesn't know the rest of it either! It can be really upsetting and depressing but it's something you just have to try and keep on top of. If you can.
I also have just started getting spots which are red and lumpy and impossible to get rid of. They just hang on your face for months then gradually start to go but scar. That has to be the worst thing that i have found to deal with. ( correction: i don't deal with it, i always turn to hiberation when this happens.)

Just to say that you ain't alone! Which doesn't help get rid of the hair but helps to know you are normal in our eyes!!

Most of us are the same.

Sophie

Thank you, Sophie I am just so amazed that there are others out there going through the same thing. Until I went to the dr. yesterday, I thought I was just some sort of big freak. I never thought other women would have the hair on places besides the face.

I may look into electrolysis or lasers, for my face anyway. Not for a while though, at least until we figure out that I really do have PCOS. I want to know exactly what is wrong with me before I try to fix the cosmetic problems. Of course, I don't even know if I could afford lasers, even if I wanted to have that done. My dr. says there are other options that might work besides lasers and electrolysis, but we both decided that it would be alright to wait until the results of my bloodwork come back.

Hey, I've lived with shaving my face for over 3 years...what's another 2 weeks (or longer)?

Cool help should you need it

Wise words. make sure you know what you're dealing with before gate crashing into anything, if it is confirmed then hair may start to grow elsewhere ( won't scare you with details about my hairy places) but everyone is different. There are probably women looking at this chat thinking: Oh that is gross! Simply coz they don't have the hair symptom and don't realise what it is like to have it. ( bloody horrible)
From my personal experience with hair ( i have lots) i would recommend electrolysis rather then laser but electrolysis is painful especially in the middle of upper lip just below nose. Ouch! I had it done for just over a year and could only muster the strength to do it for 10mins each week. Then i got hardened to it and went for 30mins. But it is a personal choice of course. Anyways, you are shaving at mo so laser would make no difference as you can only shave when having laser ( waxing and plucking and even bleaching will retard the results and could be a waste of money to have laser if that's what you will use between appointments)

Find out what the results are ( best wishes) and if you decide that the hair is just plain aggro ( know the feelin) and you want to do summit else then explore further options available.

I can offer advice for hair removal - treatments and tips etc - should you want it ( miss know-it all is what i sound like but i wish someone would have helped me back in the day. I had to eliminate methods through trial and error - errors that i wish i hadn't made) My private e-mail is lurking in my profile somewhere if you don't want your business and questions splattered for public view! ( they have heard it all before anyway!!) Lol.

Good luck!

Sophie

I might try using prescriptions to treat my hair growth before I try lasers, etc. I don't know yet. My doctor had mentioned Vaniqua (sp?), but he also said that might not be covered by my insurance because it's a cosmetic thing. I wouldn't mind paying out of pocket for it, but I would like to know if it really works. I'd hate to spend an arm and a leg for a medicine that changes nothing.

He also mentioned some drug taken orally (can't remember the name) that is actually intended for high blood pressure, but diminishes excessive facial hair as well. That would probably be covered by my insurance. He could have given me a prescription for it yesterday if I wanted to go ahead and start, but I opted to wait.

Angel, I am soooo the same way! I have dark brown hair, but my eyebrows and all the hair the comes out on my face is black. It's awful. I wish I was a blond! I was getting my eyebrows waxed yesterday for the first time, and the lady points to my upper lip and says "You need this done too?" I must've turned so red. I shave my lip every morning, so I guess my "stubble" was showing. I told her no, just do my eyebrows. Sheesh!

I also work in retail, and am very self conscious of how I look. Putting on makeup every day is such a chore, but I do it anyway because I don't want people/customers to look at me like I'm a big freak. Besides the eyebrow lady, I've never really had anyone make any comments, I guess because I manage to hide it so well. My brother used to make snide comments about how I need to shave more than he does But he hasn't said anything like that in a long time, thank goodness.

Hello

I have this hair problem too. Have you been able to try Spironolactone? I have this, and it does help a bit. It's still there though.

Eva, I haven't been put on any meds yet. I went to the doctor for my excess hair last tuesday, thinking it was just "some hormone thing" and he told me I probably have PCOS. So, we both thought it would be a good idea to hold off on any medication until my bloodwork results come back. I have a follow up appt. on Feb 4, so we'll see what happens. I am sooooo anxious about this!

Welcome KimbearlySue

Aldactone is the brand name of the drug spironolactone. That is the blood pressure medication that your dr. was referring to. It reduces the effects androgens have on your skin and hair. A leading dr. believes that the brand name is more effective than the generic so you may way to ask for it specially.

Read more about Dr. Redmond here: www.hormonehelpny.com

And there's lot of info. here on the site, keep reading, you'll learn a great deal. And stay positive, there are many women who feel exactly like you do.

While it's incredibly horrible and painful that we all have to suffer these embarrassing PCOS symptoms, I just have to say, I'm glad I'm not alone, and I'm glad I have you cysters to discuss these matters with!

Tell me about it. None of my friends have horrible embarassing problems like being able to grow a beard :p Sometimes when they're whining about stupid stuff like not being able to find size -0 pants or having a zit, I just wanna shout, "HEY you know...THIS IS WRONG WITH ME!" But I don't. Even my mom, who has the occassional stray hair on her chin, doesn't really get it I don't think. Although she wants to go to the dr. with me this tuesday. I'm glad I found this forum though.

I'm so glad that I found this site. I never realized that there were so many people out there that share the same problems I have. I'm 25 years old, and have been shaving since I was 14. At first every few days, and now it's daily, and still get that shadow late in the day. It doesn't help if you're blonde either Every hair on my body is blonde except for all of the "embarrassing" ones; they're just as black as night.

My prayers are with you, and good luck at the dr's appt on the 4th!
