Default I have adopted and would love to help those out looking for advice or to chat

I just wanted to say that we tried TTC and I quickly gave up and we adopted. It was very rewarding and it was the right decision for us. I would love to share stories, advice or just chat with those ofyou considering it.

Congrats on adopting! My husband and I are strongly considering it in our near future (want to fix up the house first prior to home study etc). If you don't mind, can you let me know if you went through an agency or the state and also how long the process took?

We're thinking that we'd go through the state (as private can be so expensive) but have heard that the wait can be very long. Again, congrats on your little one!!

Congrats! I like you was hugely discouraged with ttc and the fact that the dr. told me that I was going to have to do either an IUI or IVF to get pregnant and with that dh and I both decided that adoption was best (I was happy for this b/c adoption was always on my heart...!). So now we are the proud parents of a running/happy 1 yo toddler that is the light of my life!

We didn't do state adoption. We did go to an info meeting about it and when we left it dh said we are never doing that. They told us if that we wanted to adopt an infant (which we did) then good luck. They are few and far between..so we went private adoption and hooked up with alot of few services and that is how we brought home our son. The agnecy that we used, yes, was alot (everything including homestufy, travel and finalization was around $30K, but we pulled from everywhere had a huge garage sale, and now a small loan to pay for everything, but I am not ashamed to admit that it took that to bring hiim home...he's priceless to me...lol......

I say this, adoption is like ttc, there are goign to be so many downs before there are ups...but it does and will happen...Good luck to all who adopting and you ever want to talk/vent/need advice (I've talked to many adoption professionals and services, and if I havne't talked with one, I can almost find someone that has) just let me know!

I adopted twin girls from foster care 2 years ago... I got them as a foster placement at 5 weeks old... they never had a visit, and they are absolutely healthy(no drugs or alcohol)... it can happen, but to get infants you usually have to be willing to do foster care. and with that, there can be a whole lot more heartache than ttc... i'd be happy to answer any ?'s if anyone has any

we adopted our son using a national agency. the homestudy took a year but that was mostly the military and all there background checks. we only waited 3 months once we were activated and waiting. we plan on adoping an older child when we get to our next base through the state. If you want to know the agency send me a private message I don't know if I can put there name on here or not.

Congrats on adopting!

I am getting myself prepared to begin the adoption process through my province. I know I won't be "ready" to even begin to put in my application to adopt until next June, at the latest.

I have been talking to a few people I know, because I am worried that because I am going to be a student for the next 6-7 years, that they would deny me. Apparently, being a student is only but a small fraction of the entire process. As long as I have a plan in place to make things work and I have the finances for it, being a student won't hurt my chances too much.

I also plan on adopting an older child, most likely a school-aged boy, aged 5-10.

What would you say is the average cost of an adoption? We're still in the process of TTC#1. My entire life, I've always wanted to adopt a child. I just never expected it to be my first. If we're not PG by this time next year we plan to start the adoption process. Curious, international vs. domestic? Open, semi-open or closed adoption? Any information would be great.

Thank you.

Default Adoption doesn't have to be a negative experience

I also adopted 10 years ago. We went through an agency in San Antonio Texas and were placed with our daughter 2 months after beginning the process with them. She was 2 days old when she was placed in our arms. I was overwhelmed about the whole adoption thing until I started it and it wasn't bad and we were blessed with a child that I wouldn't have been able to have on my own. I'd love to share any advice or chat if you're interested.

I went through Abrazo Adoption Associates (abrazo.org) I live in Virginia and didn't have any difficulty adopting from TX...TX actually has more adoption friendly laws

Anyone here adopt a child from someone they knew? A young lady at work just found out she is pregnant again and swears she doesn't want it, but is willing to let me and DH have it. I am trying to gather info on how to make this work! If you have any advice, please email me at Zamanthia@gmail.com

Adoption is not that simple. You are going to need to have a homestudy done and the BM is going to need to have counseling. Depending on the state that you are in (or where the BM is located) she will either have to do counseling before/and or after the birth so that she is made clear of what she is doing. This is something that is law and she can't sign the TPR until it has been done. I would consult/retain a good ADOPTION lawyer. Make sure tha they are apart of the adotion lawyer college....

I hope your adoption is successful but adoption is never easy....
