How difficult is the foster to adopt program? And does anyone have info on just fostering and how difficult it is to do that? I'd LOVE to help any children any way I can, but DH and I are only 20 yrs old...

we have been blessed with a little girl due dec 12
Just wanted to say good luck to you. My aunt adopt a baby boy much the same way. It was very simple and a easy process for them. I wish you the same.

I would love to have someone who has been through the adoption process to talk to. We are a young couple with many questions.

Hi everyone!

We did a foster adopt through the County to get our first daughter and now we are getting certified in the county we now live in to do foster adopt again. We had a really smooth and great experience adopting. We can't wait to get one or two more!! If you have any questions for me, you can PM me or just ask me here and I'd be happy to help!

My DH and I adopted our son at birth from a local woman whom we didn't know, however my stepmother knew personally. Our son was baby number 4 and he was born while she was in a State Prison in CA. Having a BM incarcerated at the time of pregnancy and birth adds an entirely separate layer of stuff to wade through. I met the BM for the first time in October 2007 at the county jail (two weeks prior to her sentencing). This is when she decided she was willing to consider giving him to us. After she was sentenced to two years in State prison, she decided that she was definitely going to give him up to us for adoption. Our son was born in January 2008. We had a little over 2 months to prepare for our first baby!

Our adoption was a closed Independent Adoption (did not go through an agency) so I had to hire an Adoption Service Provider (ASP), an attorney, and work with the hospital social worker. All in all, our adoption cost just under $10K which was completely tax refundable. I must say, I cannot imagine my life without my son - he is my world. I never thought I would adopt, but I wouldn't change the way things turned out for the world.

Adoptions vary greatly from state to state so I would recommend searching the web for what is required in your state. More than likely, each state has somethinng similar to an ASP to help coordinate the relinquishment and adoption consent forms. If you have any questions, just ask!

Good Luck!

it's been awhile since i updated so here goes....

after 15 years of thinking i would never be a mom...i only have two weeks and one day left....our baby girl will be born on dec 1st....the doctor plans to induce so that all parties can be at the hospital at the right time (we live two hours from the bm)...

it is very surprising how little is done prior to the birth. the bm will have to sign pre surrender papers to allow us to bring our daughter home, then five days after the birth she will sign the surrender papers (after having two counseling sessions). after that is done our attorney will petition the courts for us to adopt, we will have a background check and a homestudy, then after about a year and a half all the legalities will be finished and the final papers will be signed...

i truly know adoption is right for me. the same day we found out we were chosen is the same day my doctor did an ultrasound and told me the meds were working....we have stopped taking them though and have no intention to start again. we already love our baby girl and feel no need to continue down the infertility road!!!

we have gone to every dr's appointment with the bm for the last three months and will be in the room when the baby is born....we have been very lucky and i can't wait for the next two weeks to pass....i'm so ready to hold my baby girl!
