Default I have a feeling that I should be on metformin NEED ADVICE

But how do I ask my doctor? I can't ask for it just because I feel like I need it. She's gonna want a better reason than that.
My OB did the 2 hour GTT. She said my insulin level was 3O and was borderline. She didn't want to give me met since I had really low blood sugar. She said it will lower the blood sugar even more. Does this seem reasonable to you?
After the 2 hour test, my blood sugar dropped to 64 or something.
I am TTC. Two years ago, I got pregnant on 50 mg of clomid the first month. I tried the 50 mg again last month and no ovulation. She is upping it to 100 mg this month and the next month will be 100 mg plus some drug that starts with and "R". (I can't remember what it is) If I do need the met, I want to be on it. I don't want to waste my time with just the clomid.

I have a suspicion that I may be IR and it's causing hypoglycemic symptoms but I just don't know enough about it all. In fact, all my hypoglemia symptoms seem to be reactive hypoglycemia.

Can anyone give me some advice or any research or anything concerning all this? My doctor is very open minded when it comes to research or articles I bring to her.

Go up to the FAQ about Metformin thread: FAQ About Metformin

There is a whole wad of studies on diagnosis and if she's as open minded as you say re: studies, you'll find it there. It can help you determine if you're a candidate.

It will only lower your blood sugar if you don't eat enough carb to keep your sugars up. that's why many Metformin ladies can eat a higher carb limit than PCOS'ers not on meds...they need the additional carb to keep their sugars up.

Insulin greater than 60 is considered IR. See: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hor...vels.html#igtt

I don't blame you. I mean NO disrespect to anyone on clomid, but I was on it 7 months and it was hell. I wouldn't go through it again and I wish I had known then what I know now about how met would help me. I would way rather treat the problem (Insulin resistance) than just synthetically surge my hormones and fix the symtoms only.

Hope the info helps!

Thank you so much for answering my questions!

I just called my dr's office and they said she will be out of the office for 2 weeks! I was wanting to go in and discuss this with her. I am supposed to start 100 mg of clomid in 5 days. So I guess I won't get to start met until this cycle is about over.
If you were me, would you skip the clomid this cyle and wait for the met or would you go ahead and do the clomid?

I love my son more than words, but I have told people if I were given clomid on a silver platter, I wouldn't do it again. But I would think that's easier for me to say when I ended up with a gorgeous little boy. I wouldn't dream of telling you what is best for you.

Met can work gradually on hormones, so some things to consider: are you willing to weight a few months or if you want to kick start your hormones with the clomid now? Is your goal to get pregnant at any cost, or to normalize your hormones? Are you ok with wild hormone surges on clomid to have a baby? (I was ok on the lower doses, but when I hit 150 mg clomid, was when I started feeling totally out of control).

If you answer those questions for yourself, you'll be able to search your heart and decide what's best for you.

Wishing you all the best with your decison! My heart totally goes out to you.
