Babeth,
Repeated miscarriages can be a sign of PCOS, since it can mean that the egg is not developing properly, even though it is getting released (ie. you are ovulating).
Certainly 40 day cycles are not considered normal. Longer than 35 days many doctors consider is too long for a properly developed egg. But the Metformin seems to be doing great things for you in regards to your cycle!
I don't have extreme symptoms either, or extreme results from blood tests. The only tests that showed I had PCOS was the glucose tolerance test and the ultrasound, plus I have some other symptoms - infertility, fatigue, pelvic pain, dark patches under arms. I still get periods every month without Metformin, but they are irregular - 32-40 days. My weight is normal too, but I think that is why I still get periods.
Hope this helps,
Michelle
