Hello Cysters! I am kinda new to SoulCysters. I have been on here for a month or so but have been in the Infertility and trying to concieve message boards. I had someone off of another message board that I go to daily tell me that there is a WLS forum here. So that was very exciting to know. So here I am now. I had RNY Gastric Bypass a year ago, March 13th. I have lost a total of 131lbs so far and am about 30-40lbs til I reach my goal. WLS has not cured me of PCOS, and I don't think it cures anyone of it. But it can make your symtoms less harsh. For me I still have the dreaded facial hair, acne, irregular periods, etc. I am currently taking 1500mg of Metformin a day which I actually increased to 2000mg this morning. So we will see how that goes. I am on Clomid also, cause Hubby and I are trying to concieve.
Anywho, I just wanted to introduce myself and tell my Cysters a little about myself. I look foward to seeing you all more often! JULIA

Glad to see you here Julia! You've done an awesome job rocking your WLS. Keep up the good work and I really hope that the Metformin & Clomid do the trick for you so that you can become a WLS mommy!

Just a few more posts and you can post to the WLS Divas on the Diet & Exercise Buddies forum if you are interested. You have to have a minimum of 25 posts to join any buddy group here on SC.

Hey! Thanks for the compliment. I hope the Met and Clomid work for me too. I think I have reached the amount of posts to come to the WLS Diva's message forum. I will try to find it now!

I am on the list for the WLS hopefully soon. I did manage to conceive daughter when I was on metformin of course I am on it for life. I am hoping that the WLS surgery will end the diabetes and the high blood pressure. Not that it matters my Son and Daughter are so worth it!!!!
All the best in your quest.

Which surgery are you having? If you're having the RNY aka gastric bypass then chances are that your diabetes & hypertension WILL be reversed. My diabetes was reversed nearly immediately after surgery and I stopped taking my Metformin the day before surgery and have not needed to go back on it. I wasn't even gestational diabetic during my two post op pregnancies. As for my hypertension medication, I was weaned off of it by like 5-6 months post op and didn't need it again until I was 2 years 3 months post op. For some reason even at goal my hypertension returned. The good news is that it's VERY easily controlled now as opposed to 3 pills/day with bp readings still in the 150-160s/90s. I now sit with readings (on my meds of course) in the 110-120/70s. GL in your journey to health!

Ontario only covers the RNY surgery so that is the one that I am having.
The diabetes wasn't an issue till I was preggars gestational both and high blood pressure with both. Thanks for the info always nice to hear from someone who has actually had the surgery!!!!

Your bio sounds like mine. I had the DS on March 24th and I have lost about 130lbs and have about 40 more pounds to go. I just returned from my one year post op appointment. I told my surgeon that I was interested in starting a family and he was excited for me. I am scared and nervous of the "what if it doesn't happen" scenario. I know we shouldn't worry about that right now, but it is something that is lurking in the back of my mind. I look forward to watching your journey.

Wow you have done great! What did you start at if you don't mind me asking? I sometimes wished I could have gotton the DS. But I am really happy with my RNY. That is great you got cleared to start a family. Keep me updated. I only really go into the Infertility and Trying to Concieve message board. I am currently on round 2 of Clomid. We will see what is in store this month!

I started at 311 and I am now 182. I, too, only go to the Infertility and Trying to Conceive board here. I found this section of the boards bcI saw your profile on OH when I was researching met after wls.

My surgeon didn't think I would need met but I don't want to take any chances. I am not getting younger here. I see an RE the end of May so I probably will not be able to start meds until my June cycle.
I pray you get the big fat positive soon. The TTC can be very frustrating.

Wow..... that is crazy!!!! I also started at 311. I was 300 the day of surgery. Now I am bouncing around 180 and 177. I hope to get to 150 at least. But I have a feeling I am going to have to work very very hard for these last lbs to come off.
Thats probably good to start right off at an RE. My insurance wont cover any infertility, so we are just going to try the 6 rounds of clomid and then if I dont get preggo there than we will move to the next step, which I guess will be expensive no matter what. Oh well, it would be worth it in the end, eh!!!!

I posted a thread which no one has replied! But, I had RNY Oct 2006, almost 3 yrs ago. Last year after having Mirena inserted, I have had weight gain, thrown into Perimenopause, and starting to gain right in the midsection where the INsulin Resistance problems attack.

You are right. Though some wls patients have said they were cured, I have not been. Nor do I believe it is a cure. My symptoms seemed to disappear and even my hair growth on my chin slowed down. HOWEVER, this past year it has sped up and before it spirals out of control, I am getting recommendations by a new gyn and compounding pharmacist regarding BHRT.

I am frankly discouraged at the lack of knowledge that I have found in the weight loss surgery community where PCOS and hormones are concerned. ISN'T THERE ANYBODY out there who is going through menopause, perimenopause, has IR, PCOS? Sigh. I'm tired.

Sometimes I just want to cuss mother nature for what she has done to my body.

At any rate, sorry for the rant. Congratulations on your weight loss. I encourage you to be very mindful of your weight and body changes, even measurements. If you begin to see any changes at all and think PCOS may be hindering you, see your doctor or get 2nd opinions if you must.
