Talk about similarities. I was 299 the day of surgery. I, too, know these least 30-40 lbs will not come off without some serious diet and exercise.
I have a quick question. Did you surgeon say it was ok to take Met? My doctor didn't way either way. I know pre op, met caused me serious bathroom issues. Does it still cause issues for you post op?
gosh its been so long ago... is metform and glucophage the same thing? I tried glucophage several years ago and it caused some very strange side effects! The doc put me on Actos, 10 mg daily. That was preop. On surgery day, I have never taken Actos again.
Which, sometimes I wonder if I need something like that again but I was told that the surgery should "cure" or take care of those issues. I really don't know if it did or did not... believe it did NOT.
I also believe that Mirena threw me into perimenopause. I read it could, and that seems to be the start of all these transpiring issues once again!

I called before starting the Met and the nurse asked why I would be taking it, I just told her for my PCOS. And she said it should be fine. I read or heard some where that it's not good to take or something. But I cant remember where or why. So I am trusting the nurse. It use to cause me serious issues too. I was constantly in the bathroom with watery like diahrea. And stomache aches too I believe. This time I started Met it was only like the first 3 days that I was in the bathroom alot. But now I am just fine. Seems like my body has adjusted well!!!!!
I posted a thread which no one has replied! But, I had RNY Oct 2006, almost 3 yrs ago. Last year after having Mirena inserted, I have had weight gain, thrown into Perimenopause, and starting to gain right in the midsection where the INsulin Resistance problems attack.
You are right. Though some wls patients have said they were cured, I have not been. Nor do I believe it is a cure. My symptoms seemed to disappear and even my hair growth on my chin slowed down. HOWEVER, this past year it has sped up and before it spirals out of control, I am getting recommendations by a new gyn and compounding pharmacist regarding BHRT.
I am frankly discouraged at the lack of knowledge that I have found in the weight loss surgery community where PCOS and hormones are concerned. ISN'T THERE ANYBODY out there who is going through menopause, perimenopause, has IR, PCOS? Sigh. I'm tired.
Sometimes I just want to cuss mother nature for what she has done to my body.
At any rate, sorry for the rant. Congratulations on your weight loss. I encourage you to be very mindful of your weight and body changes, even measurements. If you begin to see any changes at all and think PCOS may be hindering you, see your doctor or get 2nd opinions if you must.
I am new to this community and I seen your post. I completely understand what you are saying sometimes I feel like God is punishing me for something I've done. I am 27 and I have been trying to get WLS for 3 years now but my insurance won't cover it b/c I do not have diabetes but yet I am on Metformin for insulin resistance caused by the PCOS. I'm at 362 pounds, I've developed Osteoarthritis along with high BP, high cholesterol, muscle pain, plantars facitis, facial hair, hair loss, etc. It is destroying my body and there is not a thing I can do. I've dieted and exercised but nothing. It is hard to live each day with something like this b/c it affects everything in ones life. I hope that the medical community finds more effective treatments or even a cure.
Hey girl. Any luck with the Clomid? I am considering going on it in August. I have been on Metformin for a year now..
Hey! I just did my fourth round of Clomid 100MG this time and I didn't do temps and wasn't consitant about doing the OPK's. But I didn't get sore nipps like I have the 2 other times I O'd on Clomid. So I am guessing it didn't work this time either. My 1st and 2nd rounds of Clomid at 50MG worked. But not the 3rd and 4th. I will be going to see an R.E. August 7th and see what they say. I am almost to the point that I am done trying til I really really want a baby again. LOL It gets tiresome! Goodluck hun! Julia

Ok, so I spoke too soon. Yesterday my nipps started feeling sensitive, and then today they were more so. Checked my cervix and it was high and soft. So did an OPK and sure enough I got a really really dark test line. So I did O this round, but it's CD34 for me. We will see here in a few weeks what happens!
Funny, you sound like I do I have been immensley lucky in that my symptoms for PCOS have been relatively unseen except for the weight loss. I have skin tags but can get them removed after surgery and as for hair it isn't on my face so that is okay.
I do not tolerate metformin at all but I have been having good sugar levels so once I have the surgery that will be gone and with the weight gone that will help with the high blood pressure, I will always have to be on blood pressure and cholesterol medicines but I can accept that as a way of life as is the added supplements needed after weight loss surgery. I think that doing the surgery will 1. improve self esteem 2.make is easier to do things 3. get rid of diabetes.
I am very confident that all of you will have no problems conceiving, funny though for me I didn't conceive until I had given up and said oh well we can always adopt. oh and forked out the $150.00 bucks for the clomid that I never did use.
Good luck ladies and thanks for the amazing stories on WLS I am definetly looking forward to when I have mine.
Mrs Julia I had WLS March 12th the day before you. haha Well I was wondering if you want to start e-mailing. We will have lots in Common as hubby and I are also TTC.
