I have been reading the posts here for a while now, but never have asked anything. So I thought I would aske a few questions. I am 32 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 years old. I have never been treated for it though. So, thru the years my symptons have become worse. I have gone to a few gynos, but they just stick me on bcp and then send me home. I have never been tested for IR or had an ultrasound done or anything. The last few weeks, I have noticed that things just don't feel right inside of me. Does anyone think that I have waited to long to get help.
Its never too late to get help - - For me personally I never felt right since I was 9 I'm now 24 and just got dx because doctors just didn't know what to do with me. Hang in there.

i would try going to the dr. usually when you feel that something isn't right it is a good indicator. And if nothing else it will give you a fresh start. Ask if they can run a fasting Blood sugar test and if they can test your insulin levels as well. Sometimes your blood sugar will be in the normal range and your insulin levels will be elevated. You should also ask for a cholesterol pannel screening. That was how my Dr. ruled it out. I was a vegetarian at the time. Not consuming large quanities of high fat foods. ANd my cholesterol pannel was all out of whack.
Welcome Kelly! And, hang in there! It can be tough getting a proper diagnosis. Even today, with all of the information available, many doctors are uninformed about PCOS and how to treat it effectively. My advice to you is to perservere until you find a doctor who will provide the information and treatment that you need. Also, when you do go to the doctor, go in "armed" with information and questions to ask him/her. And, if he/she does not know the answers or provides unsatisfactory explanations, request a referral to a specialist (an Endocrinologist would be a good bet).
Thank you all for replying back to me so quick. I know I need to make a dr appt, but I guess Iam just scared of what he is going to tell me. Is it true that when pcos goes untreated, that it can cause ovarian cancer? I think I read that somewhere.
Hi Kelly. Welcome! I too was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 and put on bcp. My doctor at the time told me that the sooner I got married and had a baby, the better. Fast forward about 15 years... I didn't meet my husband till I was 31, and we just got married in Oct. 2004. So much for getting married and having a baby quickly I was on bcp since I was 18 until this past January at 33. My ob-gyn had me stop the bcp, but I never got my period. I went to her in March and she gave me a perscription for Progesterone to bring on a period, but that didn't work either. That's when she referred me to an RE. That was the best thing that could have happened (so far). I've been through several fertility tests and he's given me some bcp here and there to bring on AF. I'm having some small polyps removed next week and then I'll be starting some hormone injections to help my follicles mature and make me ovulate so I can hopefully become pregnant.
Sorry for babbling! Long story short, you should try to see an RE. They know the most about PCOS - more than your average ob-gyn.
Good Luck!

Ovarian Cancer is not listed at a risk of PCOS - thank goodness!
