I have a visit with my Dr....this is what she plans to do.
i talked to my dr and told her my symptoms.. and she said shes gonna give me an ultrasound (to see how thick the lining of my uterus has become from skipping periods) and then shes gonna put me on a med (it starts with a P) i forgot what its called... but that med is gonna strip my uterus and make me "bleed out" and then once its done shes gonna put me on birth control to make my period try to regulate..... does this sounds pretty normal? i love my dr so i never really question her.. i even told her all my symtoms like hiar falling out.. cant loose weight.. ACNE..... no period since baby (9 months ago)

It sounds normal, I've never had to take it, but I've seen plenty of others on this messageboard who have.

If you've got more questions, then ask her, thats what she gets paid for!

My opinion the estrogen she is giving you is fine to take in order to induce a 'fake period' (to shed the lining of your uterus), espically if it's been over a year since you have had a period (you don't have to have them mothly). If you really want to have a baby then I wouldn't suggest birth control. In fact, from what I understand that the old school way of dealing with irregular periods... it doesn't make your periods start, it is just fake hormornes so that you have a period, but you may or may not be ovulating. Has she determined you have PCOS?
Morgan,
Your Dr. will probably give you prometrium, which is a form of progesterone. This will likely bring on a period depending on if you really have a lining built up or not. While many Dr's will tell you that it is not necesary to have a period every month, they will also tell you that it is not healthy to continue to build up a lining and not shed it. Hopefully the ultrasound will provide some answers. As for the BCP, some studies suggest that taking BCP for long periods of time for PCOS, may actually worsen PCOS in the long run. There are many great research articles on this site, as well as other PCOS sites. I have included a link for one of many helpful articles on this site. Good luck! Pcos - Required Reading!!

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference"
I had an internal ultrasound done about 3 weeks ago and it showed that my endometrial lining was too thick from missed periods so my doctor referred me to a gynecological surgeon. My gyno did a hysteroscopy which was where he took a sample of the lining to test it and make sure there wasn't anything nasty there. He also told me of the different ways to treat this which includes what you and others here have described. So what you have been told is normal but if you are unsure or don't understand, make sure you ask them questions or get them to explain it in easier terms. That's what they are there for.
