Default I just am having a hard time understanding what metformin does

My dr put me on metformin for a few weeks and then took me off.. (to test for possible pcos relief but tests later decided that I didnt have pcos?? sigh. so complicated)

Anyways, I was only on metformin about 3 1/2 weeks but i looked great when i was on it. i lost some weight (not a ton but half a pants size??) and im just curious as to WHY?

like what does metformin do to my body? how can i create the effects of metformin without going back to that drug? I know it has something to do w/ insulin but can someone better explain this to me?

Metformin is a drug that is prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by decreasing the amount of sugar made by the liver and decreasing the amount of sugar absorbed into the body. As a result, metformin can help the body respond better to its own insulin and decrease blood sugar levels.

You might not have PCOS, but perhaps you should be evaluated for insulin resistance.

You might want to check out the research articles on this site. Research has shown successful results with using chromium, magnesium, vinegar, or cinnamonin instead of metformin.
