so ever since i was little i couldn't swallow pills. i still cant. believe me i have tried. ive done all the tricks, tryin with small things then getting bigger... i can do it a couple times but then once it gets stuck i have to start all over again. so now i basically gave up... i have to take met and those pills are just way to big for me. so i end up braking them up and taking them with food... but they are just so disgusting. my dr wanted me to take it once a day for 2 weeks then 2x day for 2 weeks then 3 x a day so i get use to the side effects. taking it once a day was fine... but trying to take it 2x is soo hard. it takes me awhile to get all of it down... i was just wonderin anyone have any suggestions? not on how to take a pill cuz believe me the last thing i need is 1 more person telling me to just shut up and take it... i dont really know that much about met... does it come in another form than pill? shot? maybe.. idk. any suggestions would help a lot.
I can't swallow pills either. I take my met pill with oj. I crush the pill (with a pill crusher), pop some oj in my mouth, pop the crushed pill in my mouth, and swallow. I keep drinking the oj until the pill is all gone. It's not the most pleasant taste, but it gets the job done.

Think about it this way - you swallow bigger pieces of food every day.
I used to have problems too and tortured myself about my next dose.
Then someone pointed out to me that its all psychological and that I swallow bigger pieces of food every day.
I sat and thought about it and settled to beat it.
I still gag if one brushes my throat on the way down but its rare and isnt life threatening.
A good hint is to not take too large a mouthful of water when taking the pill, it seems to overwhelm the throat and washes the pill against the throat.
So best to pop the pill near the back of your tongue, take a medium mouthful of whatever liquid youre using and just swallow.
Fizzy drinks tended to help me before I got over my fears but now I just need a quick swig of water and its down.
Good luck

I take my pill with food- I mean I take a bite of something, chew it up and right before i swallow the food I pop the pill in and swallow like I was only swallowing the food. I know it is psychological- but it is like I am "tricking" myself into swallowing the met.
Hi guys, on the bottle it says do not crush. For those of you that crush the pill you haven't had any problems? I have a hard time swallowing pills and I was crying last night becasue I don't know if there are any other options for me other then Met. Actually I was told that my insulin was fine the only thing that was out of whack was my Testostrone, I can't spell, and that I do have small cyst on my ovaries.
I hope it's ok to crush the pill I don't want to not take it, but like someone else said on here it's probably all in my mind. Actually I have problem with eating cereal it tends to get stuck in my throat so a pill no way and it's not soft either that just freaks me out.

I can't swallow pills either. The only way I can do it is to push the pill to the back of my tongue and then drink water to get it down. My problem to getting it from the front of my mouth to the back. So if I push it to the back with my finger it goes down much easier I hope you find something that works for you!

I had the same problem for many years. I eventually got over it, so there is hope. It's mind over matter and just lots of practice. I had to have someone stand right next to me when I took even the tiniest pill for fear of choking. I also distracted my mind. First I did mouth and throat stretches, then I put the pill on my tongue, then I started fake chewing to trick myself into thinking I was just eating, then I rubbed my belly in a perfect circle while just drinking. The pill will go down without me thinking about it. I had to do that every single time for about a year. I know it's weird but fear is a powerful thing.
Nowadays I can do it mostly with just the tummy circles. I don't know why that works, but my husband and I both have to do it...haha. We must be weirdos.
Other things I have used with crushed pills: yogurt, honey, brown sugar, pudding, and peanut butter.
doc- you got the liquid? how is that working for you? im thinkin of asking my dr for it. do you have any adivce or info you can tell me on it before i ask? thanks!
I, like a lot of you, couldn't swallow pills before Met. After I had a good sit-me-down with myself about taking the Met vs. NOT taking it, I decided that it really was psychological and that for me to take these, it would probably prevent diabetes and the possibility that I could have diabetes if I didn't take these scared the crap out of me so finally, on the second day of staring at the bottle, I popped one and took it. I cheered myself for a good hour! (It really does help if no one watches you. That's always been a major thing for me, if someone watches me take them. I've been on them for a few months, and still, I make people turn around.)
Good luck if you do decide to try the pills again, grdesignr!
