Could some one please shed some real life light on this for me? I have googled it but nothing really explains what endo actually is... I have PCOS and have already had 1 child but I am wondering what endo will add onto my already excruciating symptoms of pcos.
thanks - oh and should i have the lap?

My understanding of endo is that it is when endometrial tissue (what forms the lining of your uterus) starts growing where it isn't supposed to, like on your ovaries, tubes, pelvic wall, colon etc. What makes your Dr. think you have endo? Symptoms vary between women but for many painful periods and intercourse are the dead giveaways.
A laparoscopy is pretty much the only way for your Dr. to properly diagnose and/or treat endometriosis as it doesn't show up very well on ultrasounds. I had one to remove two large endometriomas that had grown in each of my ovaries, and they also wanted to investigate whether or not the endo had spread elsewhere. Endometriosis can also cause scarring to your reproductive organs and a lap is the only way your Dr. can see that too. If you are planning on having another child it would be good for them to rule out any factors (like scarring) that can prevent things from happening the way they should.
Take care!
Jane

Just wanted to add, my PCOS was excruciating too, doctors said that pain wasn't a symptom of PCOS, which I disagree with, however now I know I have endo, it makes more sense!!!!
I had a lap in April and the doc removed the endometriomas that were attached to my ovary. They hadn't showed up on ultrasounds but it was suspected that they were there for many years. The best thing is to have a lap. At least, that's what I think. Since I haven't seen AF in a really really looooong time, the endo seems to be behaving. The pain can be really horrible. My sympathies.
