My Mood: Points: 10,153.77 Bank: 5,813.70 Total Points: 15,967.47 | I know there are more important things... With all that is going on with people in this world, I know there are other things more "important" than what I'm about to ask for prayers on... But I've been praying and praying over this and it seems I need some help.
Joshua is trying to get student loans to go back to Ohio State in the Fall. His credit isn't good so he needs a co-signer for the loans. No one in his family so far has been able to help. His father and sister both tried to co-sign but they were denied. Everyone else is either stretched too thin, has bad credit, and/or has find bankruptcy at some point. His only other option is his 80-something year old Grandpa, who already has recently co-signed on a 20,000 loan for Joshua's uncle. Not to mention, he refuses to let me try to sign with him.
Joshua has maxed out his federal aid with grants and loans, he's applied for credit cards to pay for school only to be denied, and they won't give him a student loan without a co-signer. If Joshua's Grandpa isn't accepted the simple fact is Joshua can't go back to school.
Joshua's first quarter at Ohio State he pulled off straight A's. He's not only intelligent, but he's determined and ambitous and WANTS this more than anyone I've ever witnessed before. I know I am biased because I'm in love with him, but I can honestly say I have never personally witnessed anyone more deserving of a break than this man who has been trying to go to college (OSU) since he graduated high school. And he'll be 25 in November.
So if you are a praying person, please please please say a little prayer for Joshua. I know God works miracles everyday. I really hope that one will be worked for him. Perhaps if a lot of prayers are going up for him, it will happen.
Thank you.

Chel, I went searching on the Net for the program you mentioned and I can find nothing on it. Any idea where he found his info? TIA

What is his major? Healthcare majors can get most if not all of their tuition paid for by hospitals, etc. Some schools will actually foot the bill for students to get a degree, as long as they promise to teach in that area for at least 2 years or so. http://newsobserver.com/business/story/1530711p-7707816c.html |

Btw, his sister tried to co-sign for him last night, and she was denied as well. His only other option is his 80 something year old grandfather at this point. If he's denied, its doubtful he'll be able to return to school.

Has he considered taking CLEP tests to get some classes out of the way for a much lower cost? I CLEPed a couple of classes, and one guy I knew CLEPed more than a semester's worth of classes I think. He might be able to take community college classes in math, etc. They usually are cheaper tuition, fees, etc.
It took my cousin years to get her degree, but she stuck with it and finally is in her dream job. |

Not that it can't be done, but he certainly doesn't want to. I think he feels like he's being stopped from this before he even got started.
I don't know about CLEPing. He may have already done that, I don't know. At this point tho it doesn't look like it matters much unfortunately...
I'm trying to keep my hopes up but honestly if his Grandpa can't help with this loan, he's not going back to school... I just keep praying.

It's a national program, and not advertised near enough, mainly because it costs so little compared to a full course with fees. Some schools have limits on what percentage of classes a student can CLEP.
I'm sorry he's having problems getting scholarships and loans. Has he contacted another loan company about getting a school loan? Different companies have different criteria. DH had next to no credit and no co-signer and he got loans all four years. |

But is it something you have to do at your school? It may be a moot point if that's the case since we don't know if he can get back to school at all.
He's done I believe 3 or 4 applications with various private loan companies, all with the same result... Needs a credit worthy co-signer.

Community colleges are a great way to get prerequisites out of the way. I did that route for 2 yrs, and made sure the classes I took transferred in correctly and it was much cheaper!! Kristi
