Unhappy I'm back.....

Well, I think that I have FINALLY found a doctor who knows what's going on and how to treat me. I chose a female who a friend of mine sees and after my FIRST EVER visit to her, she is doing more for me to get the ball rolling than my previous doctor EVER did! YaY! Now I am just hoping my insurance will pick up the tab. I had a FULL exam today and she has already set me up to have an intervaginal ultrasound done as well as blood work and fasting insulin tests as well as a glucose tolerance test. I'm very nervous to see what the ultrasound shows tomorrow, but I am confident that finally, I can get this under control. Though, I'm also very scared for what is to come and my big worry is about the whole insurance issue. So please, if you could give me your thoughts/prayers for what lies ahead for me.

Red face Well, I had my tests....

Well, after a LOOOONNNGG day, I am done with my tests and now await the results. The transvag ultrasound wasn't as bad as it seemed it would be, though it was uncomfortable. The GTT was a bit rough though, as my veins are hard to find anyways, let alone after 12 hours of having very little to drink. Luckily, after three pokes, they were able to obtain the blood they needed and sent me on my way. I found myself extremely fatigued about 30 mins after I drank the stuff though and fell asleep in the lobby while I was waiting the 2 hours. Anyone else have this happen or know why? The nurse said that this happens frequently, though she didn't know why. Is it because of the high sugar intake? I know that my grandma who is diabetic won't eat many high sugar foods because she says they raise her blood sugars very high and then she is really tired. Perhaps this is an indicater that there is indeed IR? I hate to think too much into it, but at the same time, I also have to wait over the weekend to find out any results from my tests and I am kind of antsy. Anyone have any suggestions as to why the GTT makes you tired or anyone else have this happen?

You know what? I can't remember not ever being constantly tired, I put it down to being a single mum to 4 children and also working a full time job, but they're growing up now and do their own thing, the more i read here, the more i'm learning!

What a fantastic site to have found!!

Good luck with the results!

Welcome Back!

It is empowering to finally feel that you have a Dr. that well acts like a Dr.

All the test are good but brace yourself. Once you are DX there isn't much they know to treat PCOS. It depends on if you want to concieve. They will treat that part of PCOS. But as you know there are many symptoms to PCOS.

Your Dr. may offer you metformin The best thing you can do for yourself is to go on a low carb diet. This helps with alot of the symptoms. Personally I use the insulite system www.pcos.insulitelabs.com I have had great success.

Good Luck with your journey to balanced health!

Rebecca is this expensive? I had a quick look at the link on this site and read a little about it, I'm waiting for them to come back to me as to whether it's okay for menopausal women to use it, I'm thinking it may help me but don't really have a lot of spare cash, I'm hoping my new horse will keep me in the amount of exercise I need to take, but obviously one can't be riding or anywhere near stables after a hysterectomy for a while

after drinking the glucose drink for the test your body produces a ton of insulin to get rid of it; your blood sugar rapidly decreases, which can make you sleepy and irritable afterward. (think of kids coming down from a "sugar high")

i hope your tests come back ok!

1 month is 129.00
if you order 6 months pay as it is shipped it is 119.00 a month
if you order 1 year, pay as it ships it is 99.00 a month

I thought that was expensive but decided it was more "expensive" not to do it. I can get rid of my cable or rent movies instead of going to the theater, or not go out to eat. I'll find the money each month.
