I don't know what this is; on the sides of my head, my temple hair, where the hair begins its blonde, then as it goes back, its my dark hair color. I've also got slightly long blonde hairs on the sides of my forehead, near my hairline. I've never noticed it before.
Here's what I'm referring to - the area is circled. Does anyone else have these blonde hairs?
Depending on the products you use to clean your face...if they contain any sort of benzyl(sp?) peroxide it can lighten your hair.
My hair dresser use to accuse me of using cheapy hair care products on my hair because it would lighten. It wasn't until I took a look at my pillow cases and wash cloths and realized that it was more than just my hair, that my facial soap was lightening.

I have the blonde ones too, on my naturally dark hair. I never thought of my facial cleanser being the cause of it. I bet that is what is causing them to lighten. Mine are along the sides of my face, where the hair is a more fine texture than on the top and the back. I use Biore products (I'm on a mission to make my pores disappear!). I'll have to look and see if the BP is listed as an ingredient. I guess it doesn't matter really since I just dye to cover up the grays that are starting to come in on my crown.
I have some on the sides of my forehead, which I just noticed today. I was putting on my moisturizer and thought it looked a bit more sparkly than usual, turns out it was a bunch of tiny golden hairs!
Facial cleanser sounds totally plausible. I use Noxema (the clumpy stuff in the jar, not the tube) and that stuff will take the paint off a car! I also wear a shower cap so it tends to get stuck underneath and stay on my forehead.

I hope this does happen to be the situation because it can easily be resolved. There are other peroxide type chemicals that have simuliar effects so just be carefull when doing your skin care routine.
Unfortunately for me, my soap & cream are so strong they destroyed my pillow cases and clothing(if I accidently drip while dressed) so I have ruined many nice items over the years.
These blonde hairs used are terminal hairs turning slowly into vellus hairs (which are typically without much pigment so blond and much thinner).
This is called Miniturization and is common around temples (even in normal people) but especially in PCOS women as free testosterone is highter.... its the action of Testosterone and DHT - the same process that makes men's hair thin and soem eventually go bald.
Don't worry I don't want to scare you - you wont go bald... but this is definately due to the Free testosterone /DHT (bascially androgens) miniturizing your hair. Those blond "vellus" hairs used to be brunette and thick like your other hair.
As we age and also we as PCOS have higher free testosterone ( not as high as men but higer than normal women for th most part)... the follicles which are sensitve to Testosterone start to get smaller and lighter each time they shed...
I have this too and also because I have hair thinning in my family all my hair is much thinner than it used to be. It used to be very thick. It started at temples thought with blond hairs.
Some people just get that but it doesn't progress to general thinning like me.
That is why for PCOS women its important to get the weight down to eat low GI to take the metformin - all the things that make insulin resistance better and REDUCE FREE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS.
On the other hand girls that are genetically not sensitive to testosterone - even when their free testosterone gets hight they don't lose hair -(they often find their fathers and brothers have thick hair and no sighn of thinning too).
It just depends on ya genes.
Have a look at your dad, brother, uncles.. you might find they have recessive temples or thinning hair at that area too due to their testosterone levels.
But my little brother has it too and he's 10 and nowhere near puberty, so I don't think its testosterone at play.
And they aren't miniature hairs; they are long but just lighter- like my hair is two-toned.
I just thought they were normal vellus hairs- i also have them near my eyebrows- and terminal hair was never there, its always been the little white hairs.

I don't think it is the testosterone/PCOS hair loss for me, either. Thankfully, hair loss is the one symptom that I haven't had any issues with. I've got crazy thick hair, that is coarse on top and in the back, and more like silky normail texture on the sides. It's weird, but it's been like this since I was a kid. Some of it's straight, and some is curly, regardless of the area or texture. It's just crazy hair.
This is something that I noticed a few weeks ago, after changing my skin care regimen. I first thought these were greys under faded hair dye, but they are are bit too yellow for this. The hairs are growing to normal length and are as thick as the hair behind it. I think the cleanser is the most likely culprit.
I am a brunette and have TONS of long blonde hairs on the sides of my face and neck even. They are not thin - average I would say and drive me nuts.
Same here, i used to have abit of fuzz but now there is pretty much tons. I kind of like it, it makes my face feel really soft. Lets just be thankful its blonde! (if it coarsens I'll kill myself just kidding..)
^Lol, i didn't know you could get combos like that. I'm thankful then for my blonde hairs! I'm hairy naturally from being italian but its blonde, not brunette like my natural hair color.
