Unhappy I'm confused!

Okay, so this is my first thread. Hopefully you cysters can shed some light on my confustion.
I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2006. At the time my endo put me on Metformin in addition to my birth control. I had regular cycles as long as I was taking my BC. I didn't notice much of a difference with the metformin, until I had been taking it a couple of months, then I had (brownish) spotting in between cycles. My endo informed me that that was normal. Well, around July I quit taking my BC. My cycles were still coming every month (to my amazement since I had never had normal periods). Well, I should have started December 18th.... it is now January 2nd and still no period. I'm not sure what is wrong! I have taken 2 HPT's and both were negative, so I don't think I am pregnant. I really hope that my periods aren't disappearing again. I am only taking 1000 mg of metformin per/ day, maybe that needs to be increased.
I thought I would see if any of you had experienced something similar before I schedule an appointment with my endo.
Thank You!!!!!!!
Minda

Welcome!

I had the same thing. I had regular cycles for a while on 1000mg but then the gap started getting bigger and bigger. So I uped my dose to 1500mg and the cycles returned to 32 days again. So, it could be worth increasing the dose, but if anything is out of the ordinary it is always worth consulting with your OBGYN.

The 1000mg may just not be enough. It's also possible the Met was working, but the stress of the holidays threw things off. My cycle was always very sensitive to stress. I'd definitely bring it up with your endo, especially since you're only taking 1000mg. He may have been waiting to see if the 1000mg would continue to work before increasing it.
