I finally have a dr that believes I have IR and PCOS. She wants to run blood sugar tests on me. At first I was thrilled that I had finally had my problems recognized and was probably going to get some help. But the longer I think about it, the more scared I get.
What is it going to be like to treat PCOS?
What if she puts me on Met and I had a lot of bad side effects?
What if I can't abide by the diet?
Someone please tell me what treatment is like! What is it like to take Met?
Getting that diagnosis is really scary, even if you're prepared for it! I haven't taken any medication for PCOS so I can't give you any info, but I know that women's responses to met and bcps vary widely, from fabulous to horrendous. So it's hard to know how it will be for you, all you can do is hope that something works for you. As for the diet, my tip is to start at a time when you have no other stress in your life (or minimal stress really... there's always some) and make sure you get heaps of support. Here is a great place for it.

I love Met. It has helped me in more ways than one.
You just gotta get through the Met side effects which last for like a couple of weeks or so. Bloating, nausea, diarrea, tiredness, ect. Be sure to eat the right foods, cause some foods trigger the side effects with Met. Check out the Metformin board for some tips on what to eat and not to eat.
But personally it is worth going through the side effects of Metformin because of all it does for you. Look at all the women here on Met, and we all survived. Hang in there, because honestly I'm not gonna lie it can be rough at first.

Personally for me it has balanced my hormones, put my insulin in check, and gave me regular AF. I haven't gotten those boil things under my arms and inner thighs since being on it. My doc said it was because my insulin is more regulated.
It is all very overwelming at first. I hate taking new medicine I've never taken before. I feel the same way about it as you do.
