Anyone else fostering?
I have decied recently that I want to become a foster mother, and I'm the process of getting the paper work, visit's, interviews, record checks..etc done. I'm very excited about this. I'm metis and more then half of the native children in my province are in care. I feel good about being able to provide a culturely native home for children where I can help them to feel loved, cared for and wanted. I was told that there are alot of newborn, premature, drug addicted babys needing home now, so I will most likely take one in..I'm REALLY excited, but a little nerouvs as well..I'm single, I've been doing childcare: Nanny f/t, preschool worker, for 12 years, but I've never had to care for a child 24/7. I have friends and family who are supportive, so thats good, and I'm going to join alot of mom/baby groups so I didn't get isolated... has anone else been a foster parent? what was it like?

I am a foster mommy to a beautiful baby girl (9 mos.). We have her for 8 mos. This is truly the most rewarding thing that I (we)have ever done. In our case we have a 50/50 chance that she may stay with us forever. But their is always the chance that she will go- which I must deal w/ when that time comes. For now we are really enjoying our baby and showering her with the love and attention befitting a baby girl. One can not help but get attached and I guess I would not be a good foster mommy if I did not say that I am going to be really heartbroken if she goes. But as long as you remember that you are providing them w/a loving home if only for awhle and leave the rest in God's hands than I think that you will be okay- it works for me. God bless you on your decision! and the best to you.
