Unhappy I'm having a Colposcopy tomorrow...(Rant Warning)

My last two Paps came back ASCUS, so the doc ordered a Colposcopy. I'm so scared, it seems as if the universe is conspiring against me! First the damn PCOS, now funky cells showing up in my cervix. I'm afraid that they'll tell me I will not be able to have children, I'm afraid that they'll say I have cancer, I'm so scared! All I want in this world is to have a child, it's all that I have ever wanted, and it makes me so angry when I see people who have been blessed with children abuse them, neglect them, etc. I love children, I'm good with them, and now the possibility of not having them is so present and threatening. I am so scared, someone please help me.

I had one done last Sept. It did suck. I took the afternoon off afterwards cause of the pain. I got the results two weeks later which was a hard two weeks. But it came back normal. My doctor said there can be many reasons why the go abnormal. I had a pap last week and it came back normal now. I wish you good luck.

Don't stress! Yes, it is painful, but it's not the end of the world. I have had 5 colposcopies. Just make sure to take ibuprofen 20 minutes before the appointment and then when you get into the office. It will hurt, no matter what they say, you will feel something, but it is over pretty quick. Also, during the two healing weeks, don't be alarmed by the "snakeskin" coming out of your vagina. Really, it's just the mustard stuff that they put inside you to help with healing.
Odds are that it is just abnormal cells, possibly from HPV, and it shouldn't interfere with pregnancy. After the colposcopy, ask for a copy of the results, so you can see what the lesion grade is. That will make it easier for you to tell the severity. I know how you feel, I thought I was going to die when I found out they had discovered abnormal cells on my cervix... My first thought was "cancer" and "no babies". Don't worry, it's normally not that bad!

Wow, I am in the exact came boat as you Leona. They told me yesterday on the phone that it looks like HPV from the abnormal pap, but they'll do a colposcopy in two weeks to check it out. Needless to say sleeping wasn't so easy last night and I am worried sick. I hope it's all normal and comes out ok, but i'm a little freaked out. I hope everything goes well for you, let me know!

I've had one colposcopy done... I agree it sucked. I'm going back for a followup appt in a couple weeks for another abnormal pap. It's not a colposcopy for now it's just another pap, but I'm scared too. Every once in a while I'll just be walking around and the thought of the abnormal pap and the infertility will jump into my head and cause me to catch my breath, stop walking, and cause my heart to sink. Guh. I'm with you... there's really only so much bad news regarding that area a woman should have to handle in their lives!!!! Sometimes I get really angry thinking what the last year or two has taught me about my body. Good luck, hopefully everything will come back normal for you.

I had the colposcopy and biopsy done and it was unpleasant and a little painful but not too bad. I was able to go back to work 2 hours later. They found abnormal cells on my cervix and i had the freezing procedure done, and I've had normal paps since.

I know it's tempting to think the worst... I know I did, but sometimes it's a simple 'fix'. Try not to let your worries get the best of you.

I had an abnormal Pap when I was 19 and after the colposcopy with biopsy I was told it was HPV. I had the freezing procedure done (can't remember what it was called). It has been 16 years and I have had normal paps ever since. It was not a pleasant experience, yet I had a loved one with me to hold my had. I hope all goes well and will be thinking about you.

I have had at least 6 of them all with biopsy. I had abnormal paps which always came back and would go back and forth bwn ASCUS and low grade. They always saw a tiny tiny area to biopsy of abnormal cells. Due to it being low grade I was watched very carefully and had 6 month paps and then they were usually done so normally 4 paps a year plus 2 colo and biopsys. They did not want to freeze or do a leep with the abrnomal cells since there were so few and they thought it would go away and at that time I was TTC. Finally after years I got a normal pap. Since then I have had another normal one and I pray they continue. I was worried out of my mind and I was told as long as its caught early and watched or treated its usually all going to end up ok.

colposcopy is unpleasant but no worse than dental work
I had one and it didn't show anything, 2 years later my paps are finally normal.
Worst case scenario: cervical cancer, which if caught early is very curable and shouldn't have too much effect on fertility.

Hope everything went alright... the worst part for me was my tush hanging off the table my legs spread wide open and a ton of medical students walk in and want to see. I had to say no way and then I could tell they were mad. They have every right to learn but I did not want them in there then.
