Red face I'm new and confussed

Hi I was diagnosed with pcos Thursday, I always knew something was wrong and 4 dr's later a diagnosis. I started metforim Sat. and it's making me really sick. I'm supposed to start dieting but I'm so bloated it seems impossible...really my main fear is I won't be able to have a baby, I've been marride 4 years and we want to start trying next year. Does Metforim help you get your period? Well thanks for listening!

Hello and Welcome to SC!

For many of the women here,Metformin has been a Godsend...myself included!
I took metformin for less than 2 months and became pregnant with my first daughter after more than 14 years of TTC!!...I now have 2 precious little girls who are nothing short of Miracles in my life!

Some of the ladies here swear that taking the Met. at bedtime or in the middle of a meal does wonders for the stomach upset.
Cutting down on complex carbs. also helps.

I wish you the best of everything!

Welcome cyster!

I'm another met success story. With met my cycles became more regular, I lost weight, and I got pregnant. To reduce the side effects I did find that taking my met right in the middle of my meal helped a lot. Also I found that it helped to watch my carb intake, and I started out at 500 mg and worked up to 1500 (which is what I conceived on). Hope this helps cyster!

Best wishes with your met and with ttc!
Hugs
Jenny

WELCOME CYSTER!!!!

Like some of the other cysters have siad, met has been like a miracle drug for me also. It helped regulate my periods as well and when combined with "The insulin Resistance Diet" I've been loosing weight. I feel better than i ever have. As for the side affects, I also echo the sentiment of starting off slowly and working your way up and taking it with meals; that seems to help witht he side affects. I can't help with the ttc'ing, my dr doesn't want us to risk it until I've lost some more weight. But I do know that there are a lot of women on here who have had a lot of success getting pregnant. There is a mommy board, you may want to check it out, it may give you some hope.

Hang in there! If you have any questions, or just need to talk, you can PM me!

Welcome to S/C!!
I started met almost 2 yrs ago now - eventually the sickness does go away. It helped me to lose weight and now I am finally pregnant. It didn't help me get my period, but it does work for some.
Good luck to you and your dh. Hang in there!!

Thank you for responding...I'm already starting to feel better on the Met, I just seem to be more sore then usual and I find myself eating less so I won't get sick. When Do the lbs start coming off? How is the insulin resistant diet??
Thanks for the welcome!

The side effects should improve over time. You may see some weight loss pretty quickly from the side effects alone. After that it will just depend. It can help regulate your cycles. It does help some of us conceive. It will decrease your chances of miscarriage once you do conceive. I'm glad you found a DR who is paying attention. Good luck!

Hi cyster,
I'm so glad the side effects are easing up for you.

I was in the process of losing weight when I started met, so I'm probably not the best one to say how quickly you lose weight. But I was losing around 10 pounds a month while on met. How I wish for those days of big weight loss now.... LOL

Hugs
Jenny
