Smile I'm new here and newly "diagnosed" PCOS

Hi there -

I'm new at this... As of this past Friday, I have been told by my physician that she strongly suspects PCOS and I have started treatment with metformin (500 mg, once a day).

This all came about with our attempt at TTC. That began May 2005. As you can guess, I'm still not pregnant - and it appears that I only may have ovulated all of possibly 3 times in the 8 cycles I've experienced (and I'm currently on CD54 of an annovulatory cycle...).

Some of my symptoms - higher blood sugar levels (not borderline or diabetic high, but higher side of normal), acne, dark hair popping up in many different areas, excessive weight gain since coming off of BCP, difficulty losing weight even with extreme exercise and low-cal/low-fat diet, long and irregular cycles - most of which are annovulatory, and the list goes on...

Anyhow, any information you can share on your experiences with TTC and PCOS would be welcome. Especially those using metformin. I'll be seeing another doctor in May to evaluate the metformin treatment and to determine if I need further medication (clomid).

If you haven’t checked out the research articles here is the link: research articles section - http://www.soulcysters.net/forumdisplay.php?f=45

I was actively TTC for three years before having my son. Metformin helped me some, but I just never could get past the stomach issues. I changed over to a low carb diet and was able to go off the met. Visit my website to read more about my story.

Hey there,
What kind of medication is that? I am on Glucophage and I am not diabetic. She made me start taking that so that I can get my insulin under control because it is out of wack. I am not seeing any dark hair in any weird places, no acne, just weight gain, thyroid problems, depression, and no way to get the weight off. I diet and exercise. Anyway, just wondering what that medication was that they put you on and if you like it. I don't like mine. It makes me feel sick, but I take it so that I can have a baby. :-)

Hi there -

I responded to your private message, but metformin is the generic version of glucophage. I get a little sick to the stomach, too, and am running to the bathroom if I eat "garbage," but the good news, it is extra encouragement to eat well!

Welcome to SoulCysters. Glad you found us. I, too, take Metformin and it makes me extremely sick. a "cyster" told me to try taking it on a full stomach and it wouldn't make me so sick, I tried that and I didn't feel as sick. Just thought I'd pass that to you. As for getting pregnant, don't give up hope. I've met alot of wonderful women here that have had success in getting pregnant, so I keep a postive attitude that I WILL have children one day. Good Luck to you, and if you ever want to talk, just send me a message

Welcome! You will get lots of support and advise here! I was also just diagnosed this month, and like previously mentioned take your met on a full stomach it helps alot and if you want to eat "garbage" eat the almost healthy kind like "baked" and "sugar free" but in moderation, i am a junk food junkie so about once a week i endulge! But anyway good luck!
