Welcome to Soulcysters!
So glad you got DX'd at a young age.
I was showing all the signs of PCOS when I was a teenager (some signs earlier), I didn't get DX'd until I was in my late 30s even though I was sent to specialist after specialist for all my whacky problems.
Hope you learn a lot here and get the support you need.
ETA: There is a forum especially for teens full of wonderful cysters http://www.soulcysters.net/pcos-teens/ but feel free to ask questions anywhere and check out the rest of the board.
It's not uncommon. Actually I wasn't dx'd till my mid 20's when i was trying to get pregnant.Which isn't the time you wanna find something out like that. Makes it more stressfull then anyone can handle.
I would say most women show signs in their younger years as teens, and it's written off as oh it's stress, your young, your periods are still evening out, all kinds of things. (at least it was that when i was younger. it maybe different now, as well as it depends the dr as well.)
But i think it's becoming more common that younger women are being dx's.
btw welcome to SC

Yes it is. I was dx'ed when I was 14. I know its a struggle because almost 8 yrs. later its still frustrating to deal with pcos but with the help of your dr and the support from your family you'll find that lil space in the middle where u'll be okay.
Welcome. I was diagnosed last fall, but can trace the signs and symptoms back to when I was 17. Its good you're diagnosed early, so you can start taking care of yourself.
It is definetly good to be diagnosed young. I started showing major signs when I was 13 and they spent 5 years working on a diagnosis! By glad you know early so that you can get it under control know and later down the road when you want to have kids this wont suddenly appear as a major shocker.
Welcome to SC!

I am 27 now and diagnosed when I was 14. Like many have already said, it is good to be diagnosed when you are younger. I feel that in my situation is has given me time to get my weight in control, get my periods on track, etc. You have definitely come to the right place. I am a newbie myself and just doing research on this board has been a huge help!

thanks everyone.
since i posted that my best friend has been diagnosed too so it's getting a bit easier cos we're going through it together.
being underweight is a serious problem with both of us so we're having fun lazying about and eating as much as we can. ha.
Hiya ive only just been told i have it im 19, its difficult i no and kinda scary and im just finding the ins and outs of it all. How are you doing - do u mind me asking your symptoms? x
As soon as you start your periods you can have PCOS, if I'd told my doctor that I didnt have periods very often, or if I'd known about the condition perhaps I would have been diagnosed alot earlier. I was around 20 in the end when I finally had an answer to all my problems.
Try not to let all the info on pcos scare you, there is alot to take in, and yes alot of downsides to it, but in general it doesn't effect your life. I mean some are luckier than others, some people do not have any problems at all, but then others have the excess hair, the spots, the weight gain, all of which I've had, but I can't say its effected me too much. Apart from my annoyance at not being able to lose weight, I'd say I'm just the same as the next person.
Hopefully posts on this forum will give you peace of mind, its not something to worry yourself about, particularly at your age.
I was 19 when I was diagnosed, but no one seemed to know anything about it at the time. If I only knew then what I know now.... You are lucky that you know early in your life and you are taking the actions you need to take to make sure you are healthy for the future.
