Met is making me friggin' crazy. I had side effects for the first several weeks and was able to deal with it because I figured it was temporary. (I started Met on 3/17) I am on 500mg twice a day. Someone had suggested taking it with peanut butter and it seemed to work for about a week. But, the damn nausea and vomiting started again on Saturday. I HATE it. My doc told me a couple of weeks ago to go back down to 500 mg. and just stay there. But, I'm not sure what to do.
The benefits have been no chin hairs, (but I only had a few) and an initial 6 pound weight loss. I haven't been exercising and/or dieting and won't begin until the first week in June.
AF showed up on time for the first time ever and then again after 25 days. I do NOT want to get pg so that is a negative for me.
I didn't take my met last night or this morning and am not sure what to do. The nice thing is that I am not nauseated. Compazine and Dramamine knock me out and ginger and peppermint only help a little. I just don't want to live my life around taking things to stop the nausea.
I haven't decided what to do. I don't know if I am going to quit it all together or try the 500 mg. for a little bit. I'm thinking the natural way may be the way for me to go and just diet and exercise.
HELP!

I couldn't handle met. I took it for months, waiting to adjust to it. It never happened for me. I guess I just have "one of those stomachs." My RE changed my rx to Avandia and I never had any trouble on it at all.
I gave up Met too. I couldnt handle the urgency that came with the upset stomach -- hard to be talking with co-workers and just have to stop them mid-sentance to run potty. It was just too much to deal with at work. I didnt really see any benefits from the Met either.
I have also previously tried Avandia -- I gained weight with it
I have recently begun an herbal routine. I take Vitex and EPO along with NPC. The EPO has really helped with the acne and hair loss. I was so very suprised to see AF spotting today, so Vitex must be helping too!

I have been lucky..I have no bowel problems, but the extreme sleepiness and dizziness had made me question taking met. I know how you feel. We want it so bad...but is it worth it to you? I think I at least have to give it a try.

I'm off it. I went back down to 500mgs for a week and was still vomiting. I went out to dinner with a friend last night and I had to pull over when we were driving back. I deposited my tiramisu in the bike lane. I dropped her off and hurled the whole way home. Thank goodness I have barf bags in the car. I vomited close to 40 times yesterday. I went to my GP today who told me to stop taking Met - which is NOT a problem. I wasn't going to take it anymore anyway and I sure didn't take it last night.
He gave me suppositories for the vomiting - how thrilling.
Now I just have to figure out what I am going to do next. I think I will do the Soy Zone and get back to exercising. I just hope I can find some energy somewhere.
I really miss fen-phen. (sp?) I lost weight and everything was really, really clean!

The first time I went on met it was horrible!!!! I stopped taking it. Then after I had all my many cysts removed in surgery #2 I tried it again and it was good. I got pregnant after 2 months of taking it... However it is a very very hard drug on the body... at least on ours from the sounds of things....

Have you tried the XR? extended release? i have read that some who can not tolerate the regualr met have good luck with the XR.
Also i have read that some use Fortamet and do well onit. Maybe its something to talk with ur doc about especially since your seeing some good results.

I can totally relate. The first time I was on met it made me so sick. I am now taking Fortamet which is a different formula of met. It has very few side effects. I love it! I take 1000 mg a day and I am having no problem at all taking it.

I had terrible problems with met and quit taking it for 2 years, tried the diet/exercise thing and I was getting worse and still gaining weight. Finally I went back to the dr. and got on Met XR and it's been great. I feel a lot better!
