I started Diane 35 the other day, and I had blood test to check my cholesterol, blood sugar levels etc.
My doc got the results today, called, and unfortunately it was my mother who picked up the phone and not me. So she spoke to my mother and said I don't have diabetes, my cholesterol is fine etc... but the thing is I noticed that my mother was jotting down notes onto a piece of paper and saw the word Metformin go down. When she got off the phone I asked her about my insulin levels and didn't really mention anything, the doctor just said I can go on Metformin if I'd like to, but she said maybe I shouldn't because I'm so young (15). She suggested I go on a diet and exercise regularly and that would help... Well, I've been wanting to lose weight, I went on a diet a while ago and had no success, I can put weight on VERY easily, however it's very difficult to lose the weight. So, basically what I'd like to know is if it means something is wrong with my insulin levels if Metformin is an option for me.
MANY are taking Met for PCOS. It usually helps best with those who have a bit of insulin resistance - not necessarily having to have diabetes. I would call the doctor back to double check and speak with her about it - ask questions.

I had an extremely difficult time losing weight which led me to my doc and bloodwork. Everything is "normal" according to the results, however, the doc decided I have PCOS anyway and put me on Met. I finally started losing weight after going on it. I have other symptoms of PCOS although they are not severe and I would have never linked them.

Sorry for the late reply ladies!
And thank you so much for your replies, if you don't mind, I have one more question, I just read some of the more new threads and read something about BCP canceling out the effects of Metformin, would this necessarily happen to me if I were to start Met? I've been taking Diane 35 if it helps.
Did your doctor test you specifically for insulin resistance or just check a blood sugar? A blood sugar test will rule out diabetes but will not check for insulin resistance.
That being said, there is evidence that metformin can also benefit women with PCOS who are not insulin resistant, especially with ovulation and regulating menstrual cycles, and met is "safe" in that if you take it and are not a diabetic or insulin resistant, you will not experience low blood sugar levels. Of course, there are other lovely side effects of met that we all know and love.
All of us want to start taking met and experience magical weight loss, and some do, but if you are insulin resistant there are alot of other reasons to start taking met- your heart will thank you for it in about 40 years! I would talk to your doctor, especially if your mom wasn't sure about all of the tests that you had.
Idk but it has something to do with hyper insulin? I don't know... But I'll get things cleared up; since I have the option of taking met, I guess it would have it's benefits. Thanks all.
