Default I'm sad

Our 10-month-old foster son is probably leaving us in two weeks. He's been with us for four months. The court has ordered him, his biological mom and his new (yet to be born) little sister into full family foster care. They will stay w/ a trained family for 6 to 9 months and (hopefully?) bio mom will become trained on how to be a mother. I know I'm supposed to be hoping for reunification w/ bio mom, but I'm just sad right now...thinking about saying goodbye.

The only good news is that the judge has ordered visitation for my DH and I, so we'll still get to see him. And if things don't work out in the full family foster care, he will come back to us.

I am so sorry. That makes me very sad to think about you raising him for 4 months and then needing to let go.

I know when you went into this they told you reunification is the goal but that can't make it any easier.

I totally sympathize with you and if it's OK with you...I pray that your FS has the best life he can in his new environment. I am praying for you too.

I'm sorry for confusing you! I posted this in the Faith and Healing thread AND the adoption thread. You responded to both! Thank you!

From someone who has had 5 children leave my care who I was deeply in love with I know it is hard. So hard you can't explain it. I pray for you and your FS that what God has planned for you all is to be happy and healthy and loved.

MindiJean~ Good luck to you and your DH.

Can I ask an off the wall question about fostercare (PM if you want so I dont take over the thread) I know when you do respite care its very different than long term fostercare. We do respite, or did I should say. We are looking into LT FC, my question is: When you buy a LT foster child belongings, such as clothes, toys etc do you send them with the child? I know you are given money to buy them things as in a stipen each month. We did a "short term" respite for twins. However, the short term ended up being from 2hours old until 8months old. We of course just gave all the stuff we bought for them (clothes, toys, carseats, shoes) to the bio-parents when they regained custody. We also get to see them once a week. I just wasnt sure if that was the deal with regular LT Foster children. I would think it would be. I know bigger stuff such as beds, dressers, carseats, cribs, highchairs and so forth dont, but do you keep some items as far as clothing items for your home for the new ones as well as buy clothing to send with them? Sorry.....

We're sending almost everything w/ our little man into his new "home". The only things I'm keeping here are some items bought by family members/friends. Oh, and we're keeping our car seat and stroller that we bought brand new. We'll be doing weekend respite for babies while our little man is in full family foster care. Social services doesn't want us to take another placement for a few months, because LM can't be in a home w/ other children, and they just aren't sure how long he'll be in his "other" home.

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry your little man is leaving. We had five little men for almost a year before reuinification happened. We stopped after that because my little heart just couldn't do it for awhile.
