I have an issue about me having to go to the salon and get a haircut. You see I am suffer from hair loss, as alot of us do here. I want to go and get it cut, because the longer it gets the more it seems to fall out. Well the last time I went was 8 months ago and when the stylist was brushing my hair strands would fall out. She said "wow! your hair falls out very easily" I was very embarrased and I just wanted her to finish so I could get out of there. Now I guess I am fearing that I will hear that again. It makes me feel like a freak or something.
Anyone else feel this way? or has had the same experience?
When I go in - I let them know I am loosing hair because of my hormones and they need to be gentle and only comb my hair and not brush it. I go to Fantastic Sams and they also have Nioxin shampoo when I tell them to use.
You are SO NOT a freak. So many of us go through this. Hair loss was one of my hardest parts because I felt like it stole my feminity that I show to the world.
They see that type of stuff all the time also.
Be gentle with yourself!

I'm so lucky, my friend is my stylist. We are so close she was one of my bridesmaids. I'm embarrassed about hair falling out and dandruff. Double wammy.
Well, I haven't been to a hair stylist in like .. mmm... two years now I think. Last time I went I had a trim and highlights put on and I felt so nervous about the whole thing. I was worried that putting those highlights on might cause my hair to fall out more! But it didn't...
Now I just get my mom to trim my hair (its long, so she just cuts straight across on the bottom to keep the split ends off).

Definetly just be open with your stylist. Then they will be a little more sensitive to your situation. My cousins hair is very very thin and she tells them so they can cut it in an appropriate style to help cover it and so they are gentle
Good luck !

Over the years all I have had said to me is "Oh you have very very fine hair" no one has ever made me feel bad about it even if my hair did come out while they were brushing/combing it... if they did say something i would say yes its been falling out for years can you stick it back on for me...!!!!
I wear my hair very short as it looks like i have more of it when it is shorter...lol

You shouldn't be afraid to tell your stylist. Perhaps you can go to one who looks friendly?
But what me and my friends do when we can't afford to go to a saloon, is that we cut each others hair. Perhaps you can get a friend to do it for you, if you don't have an andvanced haircut... I once cut some off the sides for a friend of mine that works as a stylist, and she was happy about it, so it can't be that hard If you have long hair it's really not that hard to cut, and it's almost impossible to see if someone "cut it wrong".
Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine. Let us know what happens and tell us all about the new haircut when you get one

I actually just went through the exact same thing last week. It had been many months since I got my hair cut and I was really in need of a trim. I made an appointment with a hairstylist that was recommended by a friend and when I got there, I spoke to the stylist before he got started and explained the situation and that I was extremely aprehensive. He was very understanding and kind and was really careful to cut my hair in a way to detract from the thinner areas and make it less noticeable. Before he started to cut my hair he got his assistant to use Nioxin to wash my hair and she gave me a nice gentle scalp massage with the Nioxin Scalpy Therapy conditioner.
I think that if you go to a professional salon, you will be fine. They are professionals and are trained to deal with clients with all different types of needs. Don't be embarassed - walk in with your head held high.
Good luck!
Girls, Girls, Girls....don't worry! Actually, I just graduated cosmetology school in April and am waiting to go for my boards. In school, we learn about SOOOO many hair and scalp conditions, it's not even funny. Some people think that hair stylists are "flaky" or "dingy", well I personally resent this remark. You just have to tell us, perhaps, say, "I'm on medication and it makes my hair fall out, please be careful" and then ask if there's any special products they could try on you or recommend to make your hair appear fuller. I went to Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy and we use all TIGI Bed Head and Catwalk products. I know for sure that Bed Head makes a thickifier called Small Talk and it works wonders. I had a client come see me at the school, older woman about mid 80's, survived breast cancer, and now has some other cancer, and I would use the Small Talk on her and it made a dramatic difference. It just kinda bulks up each individual strand of hair to make it appear fuller and thicker. No build up; good stuff! As for you feeling like since your hair got longer, it falls out more: this is probably due to split ends. The hair splits up the bottom and just peels off in layers. You would be surprised, I've seen hair under a microscope...it's disgusting when they're split ends. A regular trim at least every 6 wks. would help with the split ends, depending on how fast your hair grows....it helps to have a stylist that you can relate to and feel comfortable with. We really can be very sympathetic and understanding people....Good Luck, Hope this Helps!!!!
I once had a shampoo girl laugh while washing my hair (it came out in clumps as she YANKED through it with a comb). I was in tears, but I told my hairdresser (he knew about my hair loss), and he took care of it. As in, she was GONE. Just be open about it, and they'll be great.

Oooh yes, my hairdresser introduced me to this stuff and it's AWESOME! I don't actually suffer from hair loss, but I've always had thin, baby-fine hair and this stuff thickens it so much. My pony tail is twice as big around, if that makes any sense. And it smells wonderful too.
It's pretty expensive, though. $15 per bottle. But a little squirt goes a long way--I use only one pump's worth and I have really long hair.

I had this problem also, the gal who worked with my hair said "Oh my god! Look at that!" to one of her colleges when washing my hair.
I let the boss know how rough she was with my hair and how rude she was to not ask ME about it and gossip to her friends instead.
Ive let them know, I think the best thing to do is be open. Not nessarily tell them every detail of PCOS but just say its hormonal, if they dont understand, its time to find another hairdressser!

You mean Sally's Beauty Supply? I would think so. I'm pretty sure that Tigi/Bed Head products now sell at grocery stores and drug stores. I know I've seen it in at least one of them, because I remember comparing the price to see if the salon overcharged me. (They didn't.) So I bet Sally's would have it too. I bought mine at a TFG Haircutters.
Small Talk is a perfectly round purple bottle. It's kinda hard to miss, so you'll know it if you see it.
