Default I'm sorry this is TMI!!!

Hiya Ladies,

TMI alert....

Ok this is weird, AF came 2 weeks ago for 5 days, and I started taking yasmin prescribed by my endo, AF is now not due until end of Nov. This morning I discovered a really dark brown and clotty discharge , that I have never experienced before.
Any clues as to WTF this is? A pseudo-period or what? I've had no cramps no warning, nothing. It ended up getting a bit heavy, so I'm having to use tampons...grrr...
Could this be anything to do with BCP? As far as I knew BCP was meant to regulate my cycle, not bring it forward by 2 weeks!!

Hi!

My guess is that it's a reaction to the BCPs. I was on Orthcyclen for years, and never had a problem with it, then I was dx'd with PCOS and my Dr switched me to Yasmin. While I was on Yasmin (for 3 months) I had a continuous bleed. It started out much like you describe, and continued for the entire 3 month duration. I waited it out hoping that it would get better, thinking that my body was just adjusting to the different hormone combination in the pills. After the recommended 3 month wait, I gave up.

I really hope that doesn't happen to you, but my Dr advised me when I switched pills that I could experience some breakthrough bleeding as my body adjusted to the new pills.

Good luck to you, I hope it gets better for you.

Thanks for the reply.
My endo is normally quite good about telling me stuff, funny she didn't mention any type of bleeding though, hmmmmm.
I pray and hope that this doesn't become one long bleed, I have a weekend away planned next weekend, and a two week vacation to Florida at christmas. Egotistical, I know but I couldn't deal with that!!!

Are you currently taking any type of BCP?

I got AF two weeks early too when i went on my BCP. So for a few months I got my AF pretty much every other week. It didnt stop so I just stopped taking them. I suggest just talk to your doctor about it. Maybe you need a different dosage.

Ok, I'm gonna keep track of this and see how it evolves, if it doesn't stop I'll see my Dr. I have to anyway at the beginning of dec coz I'm waiting for results on some bloodwork.
It's darned annoying tho...

firstly stop using tampons!

secondly go back to the dr! you could have a infection..

(i have being bleeding for 19 days and its got worst instead of better and im on bcp too. )

brown bloods is a sign of old blood and you may have to have a currette or course of antibotics.

hth!

I had the same brown stuff you refered to with low estrogen BCPs. I was bleeding (if you can call it that) every 2 weeks. I had like 7 periods in 3 months. They had to change my BCPs. You may want to call the Dr ASAP to find out for sure.

My Dr. had me stop taking the BCP and the bleeding stopped almost instantly. I couldn't go to a higher dose because BCPs cause my blood pressure to increase, but that would have been the solution (a higher dose BCP).

I would definately consult your Dr though, and rule out infection, fibroids, etc. You may just need a different pill too.

Hope it stops for you soon. I know how unpleasant it was for me.

Ok, this has calmed down a lot now. I've only being spotting today, although the discharge has changed colour and is now redder. I'm keeping an eye on it, but it does seem to be stopping.
Thanks for all your replies girls!

i went to the er yesterday, the dr has stopped the bcp and put me on provera have an ultrasound wednesday and see the dr on the following monday, but if i still continue to bleed will need to go back to the er.

Firstly, because of pcos our hormones are all out of balance. The bcp will sometimes make things worst if taken too long. I was on brevionor for 6 months and basically my hormones went wacko.
Please all sit down and talk to your drs if you continue bleeding, and talk about other ways of making your periods normal. But if u are ttc than there is other ways of making things more comfortable for you.

Welcome cyster! I am so sorry you're having all this bleeding. :Hugs:

When my bleeding was at its worst (this was before I was diagnosed w/ PCOS and I went in to the ER) I was put on Ovral, 2 a day until the bleeding stopped, and then I went to one a day. I finally found a good doc (my current doc!) who diagnosed my PCOS, and he gave me metformin. I really feel that the metformin helped me the most. I started to see some improvement in my cycle the very first month I was on met. And a few months later, I was pregnant.

I hope this helps hun, and best wishes with your doctor visit. Please let us know how you're doing! You are welcome to PM me or email me anytime.

Hugs
Jenny
