My Mood: Points: 791.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 791.68 | I Made a Decision, Want Your Feedback Diagnosed last week. Age 39. Have cysts. In March of this year, I stopped all hormonal birth control after having been on wither Pills or Depo for the last 16 years. Moderate flow, not anemic. Crampy. I am 70 pounds overweight. Good blood pressure, good blood glucose, have been on Zocor for years, crontoling cholesterol very very well. Not eating well, not exercising. Been working 3rd shift as a nurse since October 2007. Going back to my day shift job July 1st.
I DO NOT want to be pg right now, but wanted to start trying in Winter / Spring 2009. At least, that WAS the plan.
Want your wisdom and feedback on what I have decided. I have decided to put up with the bleeding and track it, work as hard as I can with sensible Insulin resistance diet and exercise and lose as much of the weight as I can and have sex without BC until my annual exam is due in December. At that time I will see what I want to so next. Try Metformin, or other fertility treatments. Follow up with my doctor right away if I think I am getting anemic. If it is most likely that I do not ovulate and either never did or haven't in a long time, what difference does it make if I have sex without BC? |

It sounds like you've made a big decision with great forethought. Good for you. One thing to note is that you can have ovulatory and anovulatory periods, so you might want to get an ovulation kit to make certain about the sex without BC (unless you're willing to do other methods: condoms, diaphragm, etc.).
As far as diet and exercise goes, great choice. You may want to check out the Eating Low-GI in June and the GI Diet to get more info and talk to others who are on the same track.

I am overweight as well but lost 25 lbs and found myself PG without meds. I am in the process of losing more weight now by diet and exercise. Although, I just started the exercise since my ectopic and tube removal I was not allowed to exercise before last week. As for diet, there are some great threads on the board. I personally have tried to limit my bread/flour product intake to morning hours. I have also added LOTS and LOTS of veggies to my diet.
Good luck.

As you know, 3rd shift is terrible for your body and mind. I conceived on Metformin alone, but didn't have weight issues. I think your plan sounds intelligent and reasonable. Good luck!

My Mood: Points: 791.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 791.68 | Thank you, Cystas! Anyone else want to chime and and tell me what they think? Looking for as many opinions as possible here :-) Especially about the "do I really need to use birth control if my cycles are so short that there's no way I am ovulating" part. I am actually on Zocor and Plaquenil which would be very bad to become pregnant on, I am pretty sure. My thought on that was to at least try to enjoy my sex life with my husband in between the bleeding... |

My Mood: Points: 4,215.92 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,215.92 | Why are you convinced that you're not ovulating? Is it possible that you ovulate every once in while? In order to be 100% certain, I'd be more inclined to use an ovulation kit so as to know for certain before the sex w/o bc.

Also wanted to add that I wanted to start to become pregnant (went of BCP) in March of 2006...still not pregnant. Started infertility treatments as of November of 2007...long time to be patient...so it might be wise to start earlier than when you want to become pregnant, b/c it might be harder or it might be easier...you'll never know until the time comes. Wishing you all the success in the world.

My Mood: Points: 1,141.72 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,141.72 | I think you should definatly lay off the BC Lainie.....just use an ovulation predictor. Somehow in my heart, I feel like BCP's might have contributed to my pcos.....that might not be true. But just do what's in YOUR heart. =] Good luck doll! |
