my cousin found out 2 weeks ago that she was pregnant, and last Thursday she had a miscarriage Tomorrow, she has to have surgery, and well, they said that she might have to have a hysterectomy? Why? She is 18? that does not make sense? I don't know anything else..if someone could shed some insight that would be great! Thanks!
Is the surgery a D&C? I wonder if she has abnormal bleeding or a bad infection. I would tell her to go get a second opinion TODAY, before she gets surgery from people who have told her she may need such a devastating and drastic operation!!! Go call her!
I would say there are too many unknowns here to give an opinion other than she needs a second opinion. If she doesn't know why the doctor is saying what (s)he is, then please tell her to get a second opinion.
I agree with the others. There may be a reason she does need a hysterectomy, but she needs at least a second opinion outside the practice she is going to.
I would definately get another opinion. There really was not enough info to offer any other advice. Did she have an eptopic? Even that wouldn't call for such extreme measures. Maybe there is something else happening? Hope she is ok and gets another opinion. good luck

There are a few written names of proceedures that get mixed up with hysterectomy. I think what she "should" be having done is a h(crap..can't remember the spelling)
She needs to get the doctor to write every thing down so she can get a second and 3rd opinion. Mainly she can find most info online with the correct spelling of the proceedure to be done.

Is it possible that the doc said that she needs a hysteroscopy? This is a procedure where they use a camera on the end of a tube to look *inside* the uterus. If anything needs to be done, they can also introduce tools (i.e., microscissors, versa point laser, etc.) through the tube, too. If she had a miscarriage, they may want to check to see that they've "got everything" inside after or during the d&c procedure.

Ann
