Conceiving naturally may or may not be possible. What you need to know is if you ovulate. Many women with PCOS do not ovulate, though some do. Some women can restore ovulation with Metformin alone or by losing weight if you are obese. Some can't. Yes, we are all unique butterflies.
Why does he not want you to be on Clomid or other fertility meds? Maybe he does not understand them and needs education. I think fertility drugs get bad press because of people like Jon and Kate and octomom and it makes people afraid of them. Perhaps it would help if you both went to your doctor or RE and discussed it with them together and decide your best course of action. After all, infertility and PCOS are medical conditions that require treatment by a doctor. Further, you may have an underlying condition that hinders getting pg naturally that you cannot discover without a doctor.

That being said, there are ways to induce ovulation without Clomid. Soy isoflavones are popular. I conceived on them, but it was a chemical pg. Vitex also seems to get results. There is a section called "Alternative Remedies" (I think that's the title) that can give you more information

I was told coming off of birth control pills (was on them for many years), that the first 2-3 months I could ovulate so to make sure to have sex from CD10-20 every other day. I O'd for 2 months and didn't get my period of months. If you have a more regular period you have more hope than others. Off BCP I never got my period.

Does he realize that one of the main symptoms of PCOS is irregular or non existent periods?
Personally, as a spiteful person, I would take absolutely no meds, chart and show how many times in a year you O on your own.
Soy Isoflavones can be found at Walmart for about $6 for a few months supply. But I still consider that a med since it works similarly to Clomid with mood side effects. The Met you are on is a medication that possibly could bring back your period, therefore artificially restoring your period and possibly ovulation.

My DH is anti-meds for himself and teases me about all the meds I'm on, but I don't think they get it. Maybe if they read up on PCOS or went to an RE visit that could help.
I think you should definitely go to an RE so that you can make sure your tubes aren't blocked, you don't have a thyroid issue or anything else. Plus, the RE will want DH to have a sperm analysis. :-) The journey to getting pregnant with PCOS COULD be a long one, but there are a lucky few. GL

I agree with both Michelle and Kari.
PCOS is a health condition that can make it extremely difficult to conceive.
If you like and trust your doctor, I would definitely discuss your husbands attitude with your doctor first, and then see if your doctor would be willing to talk to your husband and explain to him that it may be difficult for you to conceive without assistance from fertility meds.
Also I noticed your Dh is 40...not to bring age into the matter, but you may want to point out to him that if he insists on the no assistance idea, he could be 50 before you conceive naturally on your own. Of course, you could get pregnant next month too...but, I personally would be using as much ammo as possible to enlighten him that unfortunately those of us with PCOS don't always have a choice if we want children.

ditto, ditto, ditto on what the repliers said.

Also, I'm in the older-hubby boat and feel the pressure. I'm not going to waste any time!

I don't have fertility insurance either. We cut our budget and do what we can when we can. Your OBgyn can put you on clomid. Some will even let you do OPK's ... Call around and get some info on which OBGYN in your area will do clomid treatments. It wouldn't sit well with me if my dh tried to make the choice for both of us on how far we would go to TTC. It's your body , your choice

For as long as we have been together my DH said he did not believe in any kind of fertility treatments or meds and if we could not have kids we would just adopt. That all changed when we found out I was not ovulating and was diagnosed with PCOS. He was with me at the obgyn when I was told about/put on clomid. My dh was nervous because he was afraid he was going to end up with 15 kids at once! The doctor explained that while clomid does increase the chances of having multiples the chances are low and the most she knows of someone having is triplets and that is rare. She also explained to him that the people on tv that have 7 and 8 have either taken high doses of other meds or were implanted with that many. After seeing what I have been through the last few days dh realizes how much I want this has even said we will do everything we can even if it means trying to find the money for IVF. He has always said there is no way he would ever pay for IVF because it is too expensive.

So my advice is to get him to go to the doctor with you. He may be aprehensive because he does not know what to expect. Going with you will give him the opportunity to ask the doctor questions and maybe put him at ease because he will know what's going on. I have noticed that my DH is more interested in and relaxed about the whole process since I took him with me back in August (his first visit to an obgyn!) and having a baby was his idea two years ago.
