Hello ladies... I'd really appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can give. I have known that I have PCOS for 10 years now and to be honest, I haven't done a darn thing about it. I started out at 16 taking spironolactone and Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I hated taking pills all the time so I just quit taking the spiro after about a month. I stayed on Ortho for about a year but when it was time to go back for a check-up I chickened out and didn't go. I have been to the gyno a few times since then for pap-smears but they've never given me any type of medication for PCOS because i'm not TTC. All the doctors have said is "lose weight". I'm really ready to get myself on the path to healing or at least keeping the PCOS symptoms under control. My facial hair is getting worse, my weight is spiraling out of control and I am about at the end of my rope. The area where I live has quite a few gynos but the one that was recommended on this site in my city doesn't take my insurance. I tried taking both Yasmin and Desogen last year around this time, but both of them TOTALLY screwed with my body. I was bleeding and bleeding for days on end and having horrible cramps and backaches.
I'm trying my best to do weight watchers right now and am staying away from sugar and extremely carby foods.
Anyone have any advice or tips?? I don't know if I want to have a baby someday or not, but right now, with my body in the shape it is, I feel like I'm never even going to meet Mr. Right let alone have a family someday.
Thanks all...
Candace

I'm glad you're wanting to get to a doctor. What area do you live in? I want to say on a previous thread you mentioned Nashville area or am I thinking of a different cyster?

I'm gonna stop looking back and starting moving on
And learn how to face my fears

I wanna leave something here

i'm in Cookeville. I saw on a post (maybe even by you!) that Dr. Stuber was really good, but he doesn't accept Cigna insurance (at least not according to the Cigna website.) I really don't have the option of going to Nashville because of my work schedule, but if I had to, I guess I could take an afternoon off and drive to Nashville. I just wish there was a doctor here in Cookeville that I could go to that would have a clue about PCOS.
Thanks for your post.

candace, *hugs* it's hard to get started on the right path. the key is to make little steps towards your goal. start doctor shopping- i used the ama website to find md's while travelling before. http://webapps.ama-assn.org/doctorfinder/home.html it may be a good starting point. it's great that you're dieting and wanting to get back in shape! start working out, a little bit at a time. there's lots of information and support on this site. take some time and really educate yourself on your diagnosis and the therapy options. good luck!

THANK YOU to both of you for the supportive replies.
And a special thanks to you, Tina!!!! That was so sweet of you to call Dr. Stuber's office. I am going to call them first thing Monday and set an appointment.
HUGS to both of you wonderful ladies... It's so nice to have people here who understand what i'm going through and are so supportive.

I called today and got an appointment with Dr. Stuber - a local GYN who comes highly recommended by Tina75! The appointment is next Monday, and i'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes. I can't believe i'm actually looking forward to this appointment! Ha!
Thanks!
