Unhappy I need some answers.

Hey girls, I just need to know this....I have been thinking and right now Im on BCP'S and Metformin, I am wondering. Are any of you just on metformin? What happens when I want to try to have a baby and stop taking BCPS? I am so concerned with this, but being that I am only 19 years old, I am to scared to ask my doctor, because I dont want her to end up saying "your only 19 so dont worry about it till the time comes." It bothers me a lot and I want to know, I thought BCPS are suppose to keep PCOS under control..?? So how can you stop taking them... arrrrgh...so confused...

Hi,
First of all, welcome to SC! You've come to a great place to get your questions answered.

I'm sorry you don't feel your dr would take your concerns about your future fertility seriously. It doesn't matter if you're 19. If you want to conceive some day in the future, there are things you can be doing now to help those chances. I'm glad s/he has you on Metformin. Metformin alone has helped many women here conceive (sometimes all by itself). In addition to Metformin, there are also fertility drugs that some women (such as myself) have had to take, but that's not necessarily going to be the case with you. Unfortunately, you may not know what means it will take (if any) to help you conceive until you are actually trying. I think the recommendation in reference to the bcp's is that you would go off of them 3-6 months before you want to conceive. That way, the hormones from the pill will be out of your system and you will have a chance to see how your body responds w/o the bcp's.

In the mean time, you can focus on doing what you can do to make your body healthy and baby-ready when that time comes. How is your weight? Being over or under weight can affect your fertility. Now is a good time to get into a consistent exercise program that you can stick with. Do you smoke, drink excessively, or take illegal drugs? If so, you should probably stop doing those things. Are you taking a good multi-vitamin? Are you IR, or did your dr rx Metformin to help with the PCOS symptoms? Do you have excessive stress in your life? All of these things, and many more, are things that are in your control that can help your future fertility.

Good luck to you. I wish you all the best~

BCPS and Met both help with your PCOS symptoms. I just wanted to let you know since you are not currently TTC that Met (along with any other perscription med) can counteract the BCPS and cause you to ovulate while on the pill and conceive

Conceiving is not impossible for most cysters..it just takes us a little longer and sometimes we need extra help. ((HUGS)) try not to worry about it too much until you feel that you are ready.
