Default I need some help....

My Rosie's adoption will be final on March 9th. I need some idea on what to get for her, what to do for her. She has been with us since Nov 04, we already sent out the adoption announcements then. I just want her to remember that day as well, we tend to celebrate the day she was placed with us. I have found a few nice necklaces, but I want other ideas as well.. Pictures, poems, books. If you all have any idea I would appreciate it.. Thanks....

Cassandra- First off, CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it is such a relief to have this whole process behind you. We didn't do anything too extravagant. We went to dinner as a family MY dh, myself, Matt (our nephew), Kaelin (our adopted daughter) and my parents. My parents had a picture of her framed with 2 bible verses on it. The first was 1 Sam.1:27 "For this child I prayed...and the Lord has heard my prayers." and the second was a prayer which only part was a verse it said Gift from God--Thank you, Lord, for giving us this precious child to love. May God bless this special gift so fresh from His own heart.-- Children are a gift from the Lord. Psalm 127:3.

And then they had a little tiny birthstone ring made that had her new (Adopted) name on it and her birthday and inside her adoption day. It was really pretty.

But after the adoption was final we had her dedicated at our church and had a reception for everyone after. It was really nice.

Good luck, I'll be curious to see how you all celebrate. Keep me posted

That sounds nice. I am just so torn.... She doesn't want to be baptized until she is older and understands it more. I am thinking of buying a nice necklace and ring set in lavender jade from Guatemala for her. That is her home country.. I just don't know...

How about a nice gold locket that can be an heirloom for her, you can put a pic of her the day she came to you, or a pic of the day her adoption became final. Maybe engrave the back with either one of those dates?

Cassandra- I agree with you about the baptism. Kaelin won't be baptized untill she decides to. We just had her dedicated which is mostly a ceremony for the parents. They bring their child forward and make a commitment before God that they will do their part to raise their child up by the Word of God. It's really a beautiful ceremony. Not all Churches do it though, it just has to be something you & your church are comfortable with.

The guatamalan jewelery sounds nice. I think she would like that.

Congratulations to your family!! I made a special scrapbook page for adoption day. I included the words to Martina McBride's song, "In My Daughter's Eyes". I get so teary eyed when I hear that song.

Most churches that do dedications do them when they are babies, but I think that most are open to dedicating older children. My parents did not become Christians until after my brother and I were born and they dedicated us when we were about 7 and 5 years old. Just a thought, but you also probably want to make sure that your daughter wouldn't mind (I don't know how old she is). It was kind of embarassing for me at age 7ish because all my friends were watching.

I love the Guatemalan stone idea.
