I just recently went to my Dr to find out why my periods have been so irregular. Had some blood tests done, and was told my testosterone level was slightly elevated, and that the doc feels it's consistent with PCOS. I am FREAKING out here, and she can't see me for my follow up for 3 1/2 more weeks.
Should I look for a different doctor who can see me sooner, or just relax because not much will change in the 3 weeks? I am just really upset, my husband and I want to have a baby soon. I stopped taking BCP about 7 months ago and have only had 3 periods.
I know a bit about PCOS and it all sounds really scary, I honestly have had 3 bad episodes of crying since I got the phone call last night. Can anyone give me some advice, or help me chill out?

What, specifically, is scaring you? You mentioned wanting to have a baby. While pcos can affect fertility, not all women who have pcos have a hard time conceiving. Symptoms can be more or less severe in different women. For example, I've never had a problem with acne or had blood sugar issues, but I did have issues with being overweight (which was/is being corrected with diet/exercise, I had excess hair (which I've had laser treatments for), and I had problems with my hormones which did affect my fertility until I went on a diet/exercise program and got the right combo of meds. I ovulate when on metformin, and ovulate "beautifully" (the words of my dr.) on clomid, which is a first level fertility med that is not invasive and is inexpensive (I paid $10 for the month's supply). We didn't get pg because my husband has issues as well, but I was told by several Dr's that I probably would have become pg without going on to IVF if it weren't for DH's issues. There are many, many women on this board who have become pg "naturally" w/o meds. Just because you have pcos doesn't mean you'll necessarily have problems having a baby, or won't become pg with just a bit of intervention (or learn some things you could possibly do on your own to assist in getting your hormones back on track).

Its not a death sentence...it sucks im not gonna lie to you but theres so many things we can do...Make sure you eat right, exercise, and alot of us are on metformin. If your not comfortable waiting 3 1/2 weeks to see your docotr again maybe you should consider finding another one but chances are though if shes a good doctor and you feel comfortable she will help you get on the right track. dont worry sweetie, everything will be ok...if you need someone to talk to you can PM me!

I think you should stick with your doctor. It will suck to wait 3 1/2 weeks when you're burning to talk to her now, but in reality 3 1/2 weeks isn't that long to wait for a doctor appointment, and those 3 1/2 weeks won't make that big of a difference in your PCOS treatment. If you don't feel comfortable with your doc for other reasons then by all means, find another. But if it's just this one little wait that's freaking you out, I don't think that's worth switching doctors over! Especially because I think any other doctor will make you wait at least that long for an appointment, if not longer.
