Question I need some serious advice; what should I do?

Hello everyone! I need some help here, please . I've had PCOS 10 years now. Last year I was finally properly diagnosed. This year I have a new doctor and a new direction in life. I've been on metformin now for 6 months, there have been no changes in my condition (my husband and I swear there were MORE and BIGGER cysts at the last ultrasound). Anway, I get tired of this waiting game to see when we can start a family. I've waiting 8 years and I'm wishing I would just give up, it'd be easier. However, my doc wrote me an RX of clomid to take on top of my metformin, after I cried, literally, about all the stress and the dream of having a family. Now, he's wanting me to change my mind about taking it, listing all of the problems I'm going to have once I'm pregnant unless I lose some weight first. Then on top of that, he told me that clomid probably own't work for me anyway. I'm really comfused here. I don't know if I should go ahead and take it anyway since it's what I want, or do I sit back and let him control MY life and go to the gym, and take yet ANOTHER 6 months to a year away from my dream? I really need some help here! My husband is NO help at all. Any suggestions are welcome! Oh and about the weight issue, I weigh 238. I'm not huge, I have no other health issues, I just don't get why it's an issue for him. The first time I saw him he blankly said "you need to lose 50lbs". That is not going to happen. I can work for 10% of my body weight, but I still know it wouldn't be enough for him. I belive I would be treated like a dog with a steak on a string, keep dangling the clomid in front of me to make me lose more weight to HIS liking. UGH !! Help!!!!

The thing is, your doctor is just looking out for you. No doctor is going to recommend TTC if you're overweight. He wouldn't be a good doctor if he did. Losing weight is in the best interest of you AND the baby. I dated a guy who's first wife died of toxemia because she refused to lose weight. It's not a risk you should take. There are so many health risks associated with being overweight and pregnant. I'd hit the gym and try to lose some more. Good things come to those who wait.

I don't agree with the PP. I am overweight and I am TTC. I am currently in the 2ww after taking clomid. My OB/GYN told me that we both have a job to do...I need to lose weight while ttc and he will do everything in his power to help me get pregnant. There is absolutely NO reason for you to not be able to TTC while being overweight when you have no other health issues. I would advice you to switch DR. if it's possible. Please check out this site for plus size women, it has advice and stories on TTC, Pregnancy, and etc. http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/firstindex.html I hope this helps!

I wanted to send good vibes your way. It took a short time for me to find a set of providers that fit me! I have "fired" two doctors, both who didn't seem open to working with me but more so wanted to just say lets do this, and not explain the benefits etc.

I knew I had found the perfect doctor when she took the time to tell me WHY she wanted to try certain treatment plans, and we discussed both our roles in my health. She only asked that I be open and to know she would be the same way. I actually cried when she decided to follow her husband and move to Texas, but she made sure she recommended a wonderful replacement.

Is there a way you can try another doctor?

I was the one who mentioned my weight to my RE the first time I saw him, and I was 30lbs heavier than I am now, he mentioned that my last physical was great, no bp issues, and good blood work results. He did not see it as an issue to keep me from trying to conceive. When I returned to him after a short break I was having bp issues, and we discussed the problem and we worked on that concern with the help of my primary doctor. Neither said lose weight, but instead we brainstormed on why my bp was up, and what we could do to lower it.

Has he discussed why he wanted you to lose the weight, and why he thinks clomid might not work for you?

If your Met stopped working, you may need a higher dose. What is your current dosage?

I think you should try the Clomid if your periods are regular. If they aren't, then you need a higher dose of Met first.

Yes, I have to disagree with a few ppl. I am overweight also, but my bmi wasnt at their limit so they accepted me as apatient. And look now I am pregnant. Its hard to lose weight with PCOS, and I found a wonderful Dr. Who helped us get pregnant, and NEVER once did she tell me to lose weight first. I am pregnant, and thanks to Clomid, HCG trigger and my Dr.. I hope it works out for you.

Its really hard to find a good ob in CT. The one I have now told me to loose 100lbs after I went to her when we have been trying for over a year. During that time my throid levels were high and my endo was working with me on getting them down. Since they have been normal my weight is going down. I see my endo every three months and his only concern about getting pregnant is to make sure my thyroid levels are normal. I am alot heavier then you and had no problems with my last pregnancy. I have good blood pressure and cholesterol and I try to eat healthy and get some exercise. When I went back to my endo and told him what my ob said. He was felt that the amount of time it would take for me to loose 100lbs verses my age and the amount of time its been taking me to concieve where things she should have looked at also. He asked me if I wanted to go on clomid and felt the combo of metformin and clomid would help me. I decieded to wait till december and try it naturally. I would go for the clomid and take care of yourseld at the same time. Eating healthy and getting exercise could help with getting pregnant and help once your pregnant help with not gaining too much weight. When I was pregnant with my son I only gained 15lbs from eating better.
