I was diagnosed with having PCOS when I was 18, and I was prescribed Metformin. For about 5 months I stayed on top of things and I could really see a difference, I was losing weight and my cycle started. At the time I was still on my mothers insurance so the meds were no problem. I started college and I came to see for some reason my meds weren't covered with my college insurance and I was too broke to get my own insurance or foot the bill out of pocket. Needless to say, I had to stop taking the Metformin.
Fast forward to today, I'm 22 (still in college, had to take 2 years off mom had some health problems) and things are like really bad. I have BAAADDD facial hair. I mean I can shave in the morning and by 3 i can feel stubble. Shaving has wrecked my face, I get razor bumps and we all know that razor bumps in african americans sucks to high hell. It has REALLY taken a toll on my self-esteem. I tried everything shaving, waxing, threading, tweezing, but i cant seem to get rid of the hair. I tried magic powder and it works a bit, but i damn near have to burn my skin off to get the hair off.
I work out every day, Ive been doing so for the past few months but I dont see any improvements with the facial hair, and i DEFINITELY dont see any with my weight. I have always been a big girl, but this is getting ridiculous. If I eat a piece of bread it seems to add an automatic inch to my waist. Its getting really frustrating. I don't go out anymore with my friends. Honest to goodness I havent called any of my friends in about a month or two because its just so depressing being the hairy big friend out the bunch. Im rambling...Im sorry. Straight to the point. I was just wondering if there have been any other cystas that have had extra stubborn facial hair and how they minimize it or get rid of it effectively without razor bumps...etc. And if ANYONE had any suggestions on how I could get back on some meds at a low cost.
<<<--------Well im black too. See the picture lol Anyways my dr. REFUSED to put me on metformin. So, Im a rebel always have been, I brought the stuff online. Yup online. Cheap it came in the mail. Didnt even get caught at all. Had to go to the post office to pick it up nothing. Anyways wax can help alot. It helps me oodles. Im hairy also. Dont let it get you down. **** beard, chest, stomach, legs, arms, ass, and face. HAIR! I dont mean oh wow I've got one hair! NO I MEAN GIRL I'vE got to wax this bush type hair. I pay 4 dollars a month for metformin through the walmart pharmacy without insurance. I paid 67 dollars for the doctor's appointment to have it prescribed. My doctor's office will set you up on a payment plan for that or allow you to use a credit card if you don't have the money up front.
I also take a cinnamon supplement and you can buy that for 8 dollars or so at many pharmacies or health food stores. Even K-mart and Walmart sell a lot of supplements

Suspected pcos since 2003, Official diagnosis 8/6/2009
Symptoms: Obesity, Insulin Resistance, Major Depressive Disorder, hirsutism, amenorrhea
Meds: Metformin 1000 mg daily, Prozac 20 mg daily
Hi Tia,
This is MissS, I was diagnosed at 18, after many years of wondering "where the Heck did these hairs come from". Recently I was told by an aunt of mine that the pcos is in the history of my family through my mums side( my aunt has it). So I think there's some truth to it being hereditary.
Back to what you were asking about. how to minimize razor bumps?... Well I started tweezing (bumps and iritation of skin), and then nair hair remover (burns the skin up, left red so I used Cocoa butter cube), and in January of this year I found out about Light Ray Lazer Treatment... Which I must say worked miracles it made the hairs grow thinner... yes there still there but I don't have to worry about taking them off... their not that visible. Here in Jamaica the treatment costs me $6000 which should be about US$70. The treatment is once every 6 weeks. I don't know how much more expensive this treatment is in the States, but if you'd like more info just let me know. Oh what I find also could probably work for lessening the hairs is an anti androgen contraceptive called Diane 35. I haven't tried it yet but when i do. I will let you know
Ladies this treatment only works on women with dark skin and very dark hairs... so don't try it if your skin is fair or if you have light hair.
I recently got electrolysis done. It didn't hurt, and it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. It didn't take that long to do either. Sometimes the hair can grow back, but mine hasn't and it's been 10 days. If you are able to save some money on the side, maybe you should try it.
I don't think skin color has anything to do with electrolysis. I am mixed and have a dark tan skin tone, and I didn't have any problems.
