Post I now have Gestational Diabetes - Ques on food & shots

I just found out I now have full blown GD. I will be put on shots & a speacial diet (I think) next week. Can you still eat what you want with in reason when you are on insulin shots? Where do you give yourself the shots? Where can I find a list of what I can & cannot have to eat? Despite having been on glucophage my whole pregnancy my blood sugar is very high? I am worried about my baby being too big & having other problems. Can I demand that I be induced two weeks early? I am scared she'll get stuck in my birth canal if I don't. Please share any info/tips you may have. Thanks...

Hi
I have diabetes. I have had one successful pregnancy and would like to plan another.

As far as diet, see a diabetic dietician, your OB/GYN should be able to reccommend one.
Eating is pretty much the same as a really good HEALTHY, portion controlled, diet!
Which should be eveyones NORMAL diet..lol but usually is not

Have an Hemoglobin A1c test done.
Before pregnancy you should target a 5-6% read. You want to maintain this during pregnancy (thus the need for insulin)

Insulin shots are really no big deal once you get over the initial...OMG!
When pregnant, you have to stay away from injecting near the belly button. They reccommend the sides of the abdomen. They don't reccommend the limbs anymore as the best injection place. You will have a nurse show you and you will practice with a saline solution until you feel comfortable.
Don't worry, you and your baby need it and your baby will be fine!
I was told at 7 months my baby was already HUGE but she ended up being a tiny 5lb 13oz (6 wks premature). Ultrasounds can be so off!

good luck, take good care of yourself.
You are doing the right thing by asking as many questions as you can to learn about what you are about to start doing.
Keeping good track of BS will really help you learn how your body reacts. I was checking my BS 10 times a day when I was preggo. It was worth it though.

Lots a luck and a **hug** too! Enjoy your pregnancy!
