I am supposed to start metformin tomorrow and provera to start my period so I can start my clomid
my doctor will not let me continue met once I am preggers, I have heard all the horror stories about miscarriage after stopping met!
I can't get a new RE right now, it would take me atleast another year
should I just not take any met?! just the provera and clomid?
I not believe I am IR my doctor says that he puts all women on met, but I don't have any symptoms besides weight, no dark patches nothing like that
what should I do?
I am thinking I should try the provera and clomid without the met and if no pregnancy I should try the met too!
what do you think?!
please help
I can also start the met and then use some of my refills to get me through the first timester of my pregnancy if I get pregnant in the next 4 months and just not tell my doc
I'm so lost and scared I need some advice!!

I really think you should cont. the met @ least for the first trimester as it really decreases the risk of m/c. Here is a link to some info posted as a sticky on the pregnancy board. Info RE Metformin & Pregnancy: Given by my OB You could print up some of this info and share it with him. I took met my whole pregnancy, but the first 12 weeks is the most crucial. HTH!

I agree, bring in information and insist your Dr listen to you and do some more research! Met has been proven to reduce miscarriage in PCOS women!
I personally consider it a must have for the first trimester.
Met can also help PCOS sufferers get PG, so I would definitely go on it now and either do as you were thinking, use your refills for the 1st tri, or consult with a separate Dr or OB about continuing met for the 1st tri.
Good luck and *~*~* Baby Dust *~*~* to you!

My doc said he keeps women on Met for the first 8 weeks to make sure all is fine. He said other docs won't let women stay on Met that long. He said by 8 weeks the Met has done it's job and it should be OK to discontinue.
Some ladies online keep enough Met on hand to go through a pregnancy.
I am going to continue it through my first trimester!
if I get preggers within the next 4 months I will have enough
he gave me 1500mg a day but I am going to take 1000 which will leave me with more for the first trimester as well!
I am thinking I will continue it til week 14
should I ween myself off of it slowly or is it okay to just stop?

For me, I would probably cut my dose in half each week after the first 3 months until I was at 0. I would stay on cinnamon the whole time, since it's safe for pregnancy and fights IR.
I stayed on met longer than my dr wanted. To me, some of his ideas were "old school" and I felt the research supported my decision. I informed him that I would be staying on met at least throughout my first trimester, and had done the research to support my decision. While he didn't agree with it, he did say that I was free to do so and that it was obvious that I had researched all the information. I ended up staying on met until 23 weeks. He did not rx me met, but since I still had refills on my existing rx, I just refilled those until I ran out at 23 weeks. At that point, I felt comfortable discontinuing the met. I went back on it 4 weeks pp.

I am doing 1000 mg a day, so would I cut it down to 500 mg at like 12 weeks or something until week 14? and then just stop like 500 to nothing after 14 weeks?

If your doctor prescribed you to take 1500, then I would take 1500. I think it's been shown to be more effective for TTC purposes when a higher than not dose is used.
I took Met until 12 weeks and stopped cold turkey on day 1 of week 12.

I don't think you really have to wean off of met. If you do decide you want to, I would just drop to the 500mgs the last week. It's more important to "wean" on to it to help with some of the severity of the side effects. (Read, diarrhea!) Gives your body a chance to adjust to it a little at a time before you increase. Does that make sense?
