Default I think i have ocd or some thing..?

Hello
I think i am going to sound stupid but does this seem like OCD or some thing

If i do not do certain things i get certain some thing bad will happen for example

If i go to use the toliet i have to touch the shower curtains at least 12 times ... I mean whats that about???

And at night if i do not say the same prayer in the same order then i feel some thing bad may happen. After a prayer i burp 12 times before i sleep or some thing bad will happen..

I mean am i crazy or some thing ..
I wont leave my house unless the plug sockets in my bedroom are turned off..

Please tell me its a minor axiety and will get better i have not even confided in my parents because i feel silly , never admitted this to anyone before

That sounds like OCD rituals to me.

OCD can make us want to do some strange things. I used to have to scrub the grout in my kitchen every night with bleach (sometimes twice a night), washed my hands constantly, I hate wall paper and tiles because of OCD, if I could see a pattern in something I would start counting and comparing. I would check to see if I locked my door 3 times. I did other little rituals and tasks.

I am much better now (thanks to counseling) than I was, I still have some compulsions though they are not nearly as bad now and I am good at stopping myself when I catch me doing something. Living in a less stressful situation has really helped, accepting that doing the rituals actually does nothing but waste time helped too.

Bad stuff and good stuff will happen despite touching something 12 times or cleaning the grout.

I hope you find somebody to help you with your compulsions, good luck.

It definitely sounds like OCD rituals. Typically they don't just go away or get better on their own.

You shouldn't feel embarassed or silly at all. Do tell your parents or if you don't feel like you can go to them alone, how about talking to a school counselor and have them meet with you and your parents together.

With their help, you'll definitely want to seek out someone who treats this kind of behavior. With the right approach, you can lessen it significantly or even have it stop completely.

Jess it definitely sounds like OCD to me because Ive heard sufferers do things the same amount of times [in your case 12]. My auntie has OCD and dips her nails in bleach for ten minutes a day [and now they are like indented :-s]. But if you have OCD its nothing to be ashamed off. I think I have certain rituals and ive noticed DF does as well but i think it affects some people more than others.

Phew thanks for the kind words girls
I have been doing little weird things for a couple of years but then i go through stages of doing things really bad..
Like the 12 touches of curtain and burps.
I used to be less funny but its odd. After i use the loo i have to have soap on my hand before the flusher goes quiteter just weird little things i do. It makes staying out a little bit harder to because i have to do my weird things discreetly :o
Anyway i think i will try to do decrease slowly my rituals and if that does not help then i will get further help.
Thanks again girls your the best

sounds like OCD to me too. I just found out last week I have OCD. However my thougts and rituals are a lot different then yours. I have a lot of fears about death and germs etc.

My OCD is taking over my life. I will most likely start meds after I'm done being pregnant. The doctor wants me to start now but I'm worried it would hurt the baby. But I know my OCD isnt good for her either.

Hi, I have been stuggling very bad with the same OCD symptoms....I have very irrational fears about death and germs. It really controls my life. I am pretty sure it is OCD. However, I do not know who I should go see about it? My primary care doctor or a counselor? Did you just tell your symptoms to your PCP? And what medication does your doc. want to put you on, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!

Well my OB sent me to a mental health doctor. he didn't know what was going on with me, but he knew I was having major troubles. So I went to see the psych doc. and he asked me a lot of questions and came up with OCD. Which after talking with him I realized I have had symptoms my whole life but with pregnancy my fears have increased. Its been horrible. I'm emotionally tired. I'm at a point where I feel soo lost and have no clue what to do next.
