Default I think I'm done with YAZ (advice?)

Hi,
I'm on my 2nd pack of YAZ bcp's. I am 9 days into this pack and I am strongly considering quitting them today.
Here's why:
Month 1- severe moodswings, increased horrible migraines, and the world's worst AF, constant muscle and joint pain, weird heart beat -it's like it skips a beat sometimes now.
Month 2 - exact same as month 1, even worse.

Since I started YAZ, I have had problems with shortness of breath. I am a smoker andI have cut down considerably (before YAZ), and have never had this kind of a problem. I also suffer from Anxiety and my panic attacks have gotten much worse, to the point where I can't take a shower without having one (weird, I know). I was on Ortho TriCyclen for years and did fine. I don't see the DR till Feb. so I wanted to get some advice before I call him.

I am also prescribed to Adderall 40mg and since I'm having such a problem with my breathing, I really want to stop taking YAZ. I am convinced that YAZ is causing all of these problems, as I have been on Adderall and all of my other Meds MUCH longer and I have never had anything happen like this. I actually just lost 40 pounds so I KNOW I shouldn't be this out of breath!

Sorry this is so long, I guess my question is: has anyone stopped their BCP's in the middle of the pack, and if so-what happened?
Has anyone experienced side effects like this on BCP's or YAZ in particular?

I HATED YAZ. I had shortness of breath like you too!!! I am NOT a smoker....NEVER SMOKED IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!! It gave me terrible crampy AF and was just plain horrible. I switched to Yasmin and have had NO side effects....though my AF was a little uncomfortable this month, (it is my 2nd month of Yasmin) I think it will get better. I will NEVER take YAZ again....it was the worst BCP I have ever been on. HOWEVER....I would take it until you have gotten 2 weeks into the pack and then stop....then you can have AF and start a different pill....That is what I did to start my Yasmin....

I can't take birth control pills, period. I can't even remember what it was that I was on, all I know is that I took them about a month before the overwhelming depression and anxiety took over. I felt hopeless and thought about dying (never suicide, but always about death). I began to drink nightly, that's when I decided enough was enough. I stopped that night right in the middle of a pack. I started my period two days later, and was just fine. I've never tried any BCP's since then.

I didn't experience any side effects like the ones you are talking about when I was on Yaz--however, I did gain a very significant amount of weight which is why I went off of it.

I am on Yasmin and also take Adderall (but I'm on 80 mg a day...yeah, its a lot). The fast heartbeat is likely due to the Adderall, even though you said you've been on it for awhile. Also, a fast heartbeat, joint pains, and headaches could also signal that you are dehydrated, so maybe you should increase your water intake and see if it helps. Both Yaz and Yasmin have a high potassium content; something you might want to look into further as a cause of your side effects.

I recently went back on Yasmin 6 months ago, after having been off of it for a year (before that, I was on Yasmin for 4 years), and my severe cystic acne went away FINALLY. I think you should stay on Yasmin for 6 months until you make the final decision. Going off is harder than you think because there are side effects that come with that as well--such as oily skin and hair, lots of hair loss, cystic acne, etc.

Sorry if this reply is a bit random and unorganized, as I am studying for an economics exam I have tomorrow. If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

Thank you! I just realized that in the past six months my migraine headaches increased significantly...I just thought that I was eating too many foods with MSG (which I avoid like the plague b/c it's a bad trigger for migraines). I never even thought that it could be associated with my BCP.

Hello,

I haven't tried Yaz as it is not yet available in the UK. However I am on Yasmin and find it to be fantastic. That said, when I tried it for about 7 months 3 years ago, I vowed never to take Yasmin again!! I didn't have a good time on it, mainly anxiety and depression issues, but these were exacerbated by my living conditions at the time. However, now, I feel great.

With regards to stopping any bcp before the break, it is perfectly safe to do so. You will usually have a withdrawal bleed in 2-3 days after the last pill. Since you have not long had your break, perhaps it may not be that pleasant to have one so soon. But, if you're feeling this way and you're certain it is the Yaz, I don't believe ANY pill is worth going through this.

The only thing I would consider is that, as we are usually told, it can take 3 months usually for side effects to disappear/lessen. I wanted to give up Yasmin last year as my first 2 months were not so good, but I am so glad that I have persevered!

I hope you make a decision that is right for you, and that you feel much better soon xx

Thanks guys, I decided to wait it out this month, I have 6 pills left and I'm just feeling worse every day I'm on it, so after this pack I am most definitely done. Any benefits YAZ may be giving me aren't worth the hell it's causing me! In re: about the Migraines, I had to fight forEVER to even let the Doctors put me back on BCP's because of my Migraines, and the only reason I'm on them now is b/c of PCOS, but I'm remembering now how horrible my Migraines were on any brand of BCP I've ever been on, so I'm thinking they're just not for me

I feel for you. I had the exact SAME experience with Yaz. I switched to Loestrin and am now having problems with what I feel is irrational weight gain. Sometimes I wonder if going through the trial and error of the birth control is really worth all of this?

Unhappy Yasmin

Hi I'm new here. I have been experiencing the same symptoms, the most major is the my heart skipping beats every so often. Did your symptoms stop after you stopped Yasmin?
